Visited for dinner. First of all the location is small and there aren’t much seating (maybe around 30 seats). Waited about 15 mins for our seat.
Ordered a satay hotpot, mixed grill and Taiwanese pork, sausage rice bowl and popcorn chicken.
The Satay hotpot was ok - but soup base lacks a bit of flavour could be a bit more salty. The pot itself is small and jammed packed with food, and this made it hard to cook all the food in the pot. This might work for other foods but for hotpot you’ll need some room so the food touches the soup to cook ideally - so I feel they should have picked a bigger “pot”. Portion was pretty good.
The popcorn chicken was good super crunchy and I really enjoyed it.
The mixed grill hot plate was also good - all the meat were very tender and the flavour was good as well. Surprisingly the sausage/hot dog in the mixed grill was really good it tasted like a smoked hotdog. Portion was pretty good.
The Taiwanese pork and sausage bowl was a bit low on the flavour side - the minced pork could have been more salty and it lacked flavour compared to the other dishes. The sausage was good it’s hard to go wrong with that. Portion was average.
I wanted to try their desserts but was too full - but looking at other tables it seems they got some pretty cool ones - even one with dry ice emitting smoke 😂
Overall I enjoyed the meal but there is room for improvements. The location isn’t really a place to sit and relax (due to its size), which kind of feels contradictory to the vibe they’re going for (kinda like a late night snack or dessert place to chat with friends).
I would rate overall 4 stars.
PS - One thing I noticed was they had a promotion if you rate them 5 stars you’ll earn a free drink. I felt this was kind of questionable ethically, and could be a reason there’s so much 5...
Read moreRecently dined at Mabu Generation in Markham and it was an unforgettable experience. This modern Taiwanese fusion spot dazzles with its broad menu, seamlessly blending traditional flavors with innovative twists. The ambiance, rich with traditional Taiwanese décor, creates a welcoming and cozy atmosphere that's both unique and inviting.
The service at Mabu Generation was outstanding. The staff are not just knowledgeable about the menu, but also genuinely enthusiastic to guide you through it. Their attentiveness ensured our glasses were never empty, and our dining experience was nothing short of excellent.
We decided to try the Taiwanese style popcorn chicken and the Okonomiyaki fries. The popcorn chicken was an absolute delight - crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. It's a dish I'd come back for without hesitation. The Okonomiyaki fries were a revelation, combining the savory, umami-packed flavors of the traditional Japanese pancake with the comfort of fried potatoes - a fusion that's both creative and delicious.
For dessert, we indulged in the matcha double formage cheesecake, which was light, fluffy, and the perfect end to our meal. Their extensive selection of bubble teas and drinks was the cherry on top of an already fantastic dining experience.
Mabu Generation is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Taiwanese flavors with a modern twist. It's clear they put a lot of thought and care into every dish and drink they serve. Highly recommend for an enjoyable dining experience that goes above and beyond in both food quality and service. Can't wait to return and explore more...
Read moreRecently I shared a leisurely lunch with my sister at Mabu Generation, a Taiwanese restaurant serving authentic cuisine. As we stepped inside, the vibrant neon lights and colorful decor immediately caught my attention, evoking the feeling of entering a lively alley. The animated menu and whimsical bearbrick display added a playful touch to the already inviting ambiance. The entrance seamlessly led us to a world of aesthetic delight. The array of colorful figurines lining the walls was particularly captivating, while the spacious table arrangement ensured a comfortable dining experience. With numerous delectable options on the menu, we ultimately opted for the Popular lunch set, featuring sausage and braised pork rice, accompanied by a sweet dessert and refreshing ice winter melon tea. The braised pork was cooked to perfection, boasting a tender texture without being greasy. However the sauce was a bit sweet for my taste (apparently I remembered the authentic braised pork sauce was sweet when I tried it in Taipei years ago.) The cold tofu and pickles provided a delightful contrast to the rich pork. The iced winter melon tea was incredibly soothing. Notably, the individual hot pots served at the next table appeared to be the perfect size for a solo indulgence. I'm eager to try it on my next visit. This restaurant offers a tranquil atmosphere, reasonable prices, and a beautifully designed environment, making it an ideal spot for a...
