This place was on my radar as it showed up on one of the feeds from Yelp so yesterday I finally got around to visiting this restaurant. They are conveniently located right off of QEW and Erin Mills Parkway in a newly built plaza beside the Sheridan Mall.
The restaurant itself is very modern looking with high open ceilings very industrial look. There are about 40 seats available inside with 2 large booths, a bunch of tables for 2 people, on the opposite side of the table for 2's there are a bunch of tables that can be shuffled around to accommodate for larger or smaller parties. Smack in the middle is a long table that is tall like bar style seating that will seat about 8 people. The place a very spacious and won't feel cramped.
They serve Northern China style noodles, grilled skewers, and some appetizers, I find that most of these dishes are based on Schiuan peppercorns. I ordered the grilled lamb skewer, grilled whole squid, and steamed chicken with chilli sauce to start. The grilled lamb skewers are very common and flavour is about the same everywhere I go however the lamb was actually not gamy. The grilled squid was pretty good I enjoyed the smokey flavour and the sweet sauce they brushed on to finish it off. The steamed chicken with chilli sauce is topped with peanuts and spicy sauce, the sauce is not over the top spicy and carries a slight numbness to it. Typical Northern style cooking with Schiuan peppercorn.
For the noodles my wife and I ordered the Marinated Pork Belly and Beef Sirloin, the soup base for both noodles were the same. You can choose the spice level from Hot, Medium, Mild or none and the numbness level is the same from Strong, medium, mild or even none. My wife and I can take some spice so we ordered both the noodles with hot spice option but no numbness as my wife is not a fan of it. The pork was very tender and soft with lots of flavour in the meat as this is marinated. The beef sirloin was also tender and soft with plenty of flavour in the meat as well. The soup is very rich in flavour and I didn't find that the hot was that spicy, I would rate their hot a 6 out of 10 for me. The noodles also come with half a boiled egg.
I also saw that they have a few other style of noodle dishes that seem to be a different soup base so I look forward to trying those out next...
Read moreIt is a Friday and I was in the mood for some good noodle soup because the weather is a bit chilly today.
I just picked up pizza from Pizza Nostra and this restaurant fit the bill because it is on my way home.
I have been here before 2-3 years ago if memory serves me correctly. It is a local mom & pop business. So that already scores some points with me.
I agree with my fellow reviewers, the food is very well packaged and the portions are quite generous.
I chose the Noodle Soup with Beef Sirloin and a BBQ Squid on a skewer. Man, how I miss travelling to Asia and eating these delectable meat and seafood skewers at the night markets. Not to worry, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. And we can all travel soon ......
There are several components which makes up a really good noodle soup:
The broth was warm and inviting, The taste, flavour and aroma were an instant hit. I rarely drink or finish the soup/broth, but I slurped it all up until it was gone. It was delicious.
The noodles were cooked to perfection with enough bounce on each bite. Unlike overcooked soggy noodles.....YUCK. But not the case here.
Man oh man, the beef was heavenly. It was juicy and not dry and packed with flavour. I was expecting the beef to be good but dry ...you know....it is dry when it just gets stuck between your teeth kinda dry and tough. I will say again, this was not the case here.
The portion is generous. It may look small, but it will fill you up.
The skewer was nice and flavourful. The marinade was bang on with a spicy hit. The squid was not chewy at all, but rather it still had a snap, crackle and pop upon every bite. It was most enjoyable.
Update March 2024
The service is friendly and efficient. They get 10 stars 🌟. The beef 🥩 noodles was tasty with a hearty broth. The beef was tender and packed with flavour. The squid and chicken skewers were excellent and satisfying.
A+ experience all the way here.
Happy eats everyone 😎
I must return later on to check on the consistency.
Please give them a try and let us all now what your thoughts are.
This a bases clearing triple into the right...
Read moreEdit. I had to come back and edit my previous review. This place have definitely stepped up their service since my first visit. They have gone above and beyond on many occassions whether it was a visit to the restaurant or take out or ubereat. In term of services, they are a definite 5 stars. However in terms of authenticity to the true Chongqing noodle tastes, I would still only give it a 4 due to the spice and numbness that was lacking to a traditional Chongqing noodle, especially that is how they are marketing themselves. Overall, they definitely stepped up their game. ... This noodle shop market themselves as 重庆小面 (noodles from ChongQing) which got me really excited as it is really hard to find authentic Sichuan food especially in Mississauga. So I came in with the expectation that they were going to be authentic to taste, especially since they certainly smells like it. I asked for a spicy and sour vermicelli noodle (which is also a staple from ChongQing), and asked for it to be extra hot and extra tingle (麻). It was very bland to taste which I had to add extra vinegar to give it a more authentic taste. The spice was there but not the tingling feeling it is supposed to give you. The portion size is good and the spice is nice. It was good but it does not live up to its name. Food 4 stars. But service 2 stars. The girl at the counter was more interested in playing on her cell phone then to service people. You were given the bare minimum of a napkin and utensils. There would be no water or tea unless you have ordered a bubble tea or a soft drink. If you did like a nice cold cup of water, you got to wave her down when she eventually looked up from her phone. Also their kitchen staffs were super loud, you could literally hear...
