Like many others I assume, we came for Leelas and arrived past closing so we decided to try it out.
Service was...adequate. By no means was the restaurant crowded - we were the only ones there. The cashier seemed a bit put off (slightly) that we were having a bit of trouble deciding what to order. When we tried to pay for beverages in addition to the already-rung in order, we were asked to wait until she began to process our order. She told us the wait would be 10 minutes and that was fine with us so we sat down to wait. The decor is utilitarian - definitely not geared towards an eat-in crowd. The tables were clean and barring some packing or packages on one of the chairs, tidy.
The food came relatively quickly. I think it was less than 10 minutes. The portions are large enough to fill your belly - two bone-in jerk chicken meals, one boneless one, a small fried chicken and rice and a large curry goat came to $45 odd dollars which is a reasonable price.
The taste of my meal, the boneless jerk chicken, was very bland. The rice was overcooked but flavourless, the sauce was very very sparse. The chicken serving was frugal and over dry. It was more like it has been briefly rubbed than marinated and properly baked in. The coleslaw 'serving ' was just over a tablespoon. All in all very mediocre.
The problem arose when my daughter gasped after discovering a long black hair baked into her jerk chicken meal (see image). Needless to say that ended dinner. Accidents happen, yes, but this was just the last element of a...
Read moreOne star and only for ice cold beer because it goes horribly downhill from there. Waitress had zero clue about what was available for beverages. We ordered TWO BONELESS jerk chicken dinners . Plates were slapped on the table in front of us. My napkins were GREASY before I even touched them. We repeated BONELESS three times.
We received chicken backs. With bones.
There was not enough meat on two plates to equal ONE SMALL DINNER never mind two large. Not even a drumstick. Just boney backs. Chicken was luke warm and obviously straight from the microwave. No gravy. Rice was overcooked and oily.. yes oily.. liked they added cooking oil to it before they nuked it in the microwave... And it covered half the plate ( trying to hide the fact there was barely any chicken on the plate) Coleslaw was good but obviously came from a prepared prepackaged container. Both of us came out feeling queasy from the food. Will never darken their door again. Read reviews before trying a new place. Wish we had.....
Read moreThis is my second time at Papa Moe's and while the food is okay, it's still no where near the quality and taste of Leela's (located several stores down in the same plaza).
The reason for my rating being 2 stars is that I would have given it 3 or 4 stars IF the person taking my order at that location had gotten it correct. I had ordered a Chicken Roti lunch special ($4.50 on Monday's) and I should have clued something was wrong in when they rang it up on the cash register as $4.25. When I got back to my office, I opened the box and I was greeted with a bone chicken curry on rice. While the dish itself isn't horrible by any means, it wasn't what I...
