This used to be my go-to local pho restaurant but after today's experience, I will be taking my business elsewhere.
Coming in for dinner, we were greeted with not-so-great attitudes. However, my partner and I put this aside. After ordering our food, I went to wash my hands before the meal, the men's washroom was smelled rancid, as if someone forgot to flush the toilet for several days. I was not able to stay in the washroom for longer than a quick hand rinse. As I came out, the waiter brought out our food. In a Vietnamese conversation, we overhead the chef (potentially named Huynh) and the waiter talking about my partner's chest. This is extremely DISRESPECTFUL!!! The staff members believed that my partner and I were not proficient in their native language, so they decided not to mask their side-conversations. After this comment, my partner felt very uncomfortable. The staff members were also extremely unprofessional - singing, laughing, and joking around in the kitchen.
While eating, we overhead a fellow customer having a disagreement with the server. The customer got charged extra for their take-out order, for pieces of chicken that he "did not order" and kindly ask the staff members to waive the charge or remove the chicken. The staff members were not inclined to do either... what happened to 'good customer service'?
Honestly, the food was mediocre at best. Ever since management changes earlier this year, it has not been the same. Based on this TERRIBLE experience, I will be happy seeking other options in the area. You would think with the competition and readily available Vietnamese restaurant options in the area, that the staff members would be more concerned about their customer service skills and not UNPROFESSIONAL and...
Read moreThe food and portions are good but nothing great. The atmosphere is cozy enough to be enjoyable, but where everything falls apart is the service. They were eager to rush through every interaction I've had with them and rarely said anything. I wanted to ask about adding a side to the order but before I could say anything they ran off and did not turn around when I tried calling for their attention. Honest mistake, fine, but where I have the biggest issue is the fact that they had the audacity to REFUSE TO LET ME NOT TIP THEM. When paying I initially selected No Tip because the service was not anything deserving of a tip, but the cashier declined the transaction then refused to let me select any option except the 10%, 15%, 20% tips. Then, my friend paid for his food after me with cash and before he could finish counting his change and leave a tip he felt deserving, the cashier snatched the tray away from him and ended up forcing him to tip more than he even wanted to.
Absolutely scummy people. I can understand wanting a tip in this day and age, given how rampant tip culture has become in Canada, but actively denying the option to not tip and not even giving people the time of day to count their change is absolute scummy. I will never return to this restaurant because of the service alone, even if the food itself is...
Read moreOrdered 4 soups for pick up. 2 beef with rice noodles, 1 seafood with rice noodles, and 1 chicken with rice noodles. The 2 beef soups were hot and boiling and cooked the rare beef in the bowl as intended, but the other 2 soups, chicken and seafood, the soup broth provided was cold and room temperature at best.
We called the restaurant to tell them about the soup being cold and the girl that answered told us to microwave the broths. We live less than 5 minutes away from the restaurant so it's not possible that the boiling hot soup broth for the seafood and chicken soups would be cold by the time we got home. This is true since both beef soups were hot and boiling when we got home.
We were told to microwave the soup broth or "heat it up however we can." the person assumed we had the ability to heat up the broth, what if we weren't home or ate on the road? When we order take out pho from other restaurants, the soup is boiling hot for all the soups we order by the time we get home and plate to eat. Had to wait an additional 10-15 minutes for the 2 soups to boil on the stove.
As for the beef soups, they were bland and the soup was full of large cuts of red onion that overpowered everything else in the soup. Hot sauce and house sauce were overpowered by the strong...
