I’ve been coming here for years and the food ranges from good to outstanding. Having said that, I experienced this weekend a noticeable drop in customer service attitude that merits being addressed by management.
Overall everyone working in the restaurant that I came across lacked a demeanour of being there to enhance the customer experience. Everyone seems tired, and going through the motions and for many employees annoyed that the customer has requests or is even there.
The short woman in white who was the hostess Saturday and Sunday morning has a very poor attitude and seemed annoyed that I expressed a desire for a certain kind of seating (which they could easily accommodate).
At lunch, the same woman responded poorly when I pointed out we needed more water at our table. She told me she was busy and to go speak to wait staff at the other end of the room. I asked her to do it and she got upset and said I should do it myself and only said she would get to it when she finished what she was doing.
Chef at the omelette station on Saturday was preoccupied with some internal dispute with another staff member. The proper customer service step is to turn towards a customer who is there and, if it’s absolutely necessary to continue the staff discussion , greet the customer with a smile and tell them you’ll be with them in a moment and quickly finish the operational discussion. Instead I stood there for 30 seconds and when I finally said “excuse me” I was told to wait like I was a bother.
This morning a male waiter complained about not receiving a tip. He was virtually invisible to me the entire time. The only interaction I had with him is that he poured me a glass of water. The breakfast is a buffet. I had no interaction with him other than to receive the bill. He confronted me about the lack of a tip and started arguing with me why he deserves a tip. He started asking what I do for a living as if to guilt trip me. No competent waiter will ever behave like this.
Get your act together management. You’re a high end establishment but you’re letting your employees conduct themselves like toddlers who don’t understand the job...
Read moreFairmont Montebello is a unique resort oozing with rustic charm and history. We enjoyed services at the spa during the day and the outdoors offer a lot of activities.
The room was "historical" in feel but was lacking in a few modern upgrades for the price : wallpaper peeling from the walls, a jacuzzi tub from the 50s that made so much noise, we preferred not to turn it on. The bed, AMAZING comfort. Crisp sheets, comfy mattress and an assortment of pillows with different firmness. This was by far the best room feature.
Dinner was a real disappointment. While the appetizer came rather quickly, we waited about 45 minutes for the main meal. My partner's cod dish was good, but lacked a bit in flavour. I got a chicken dish that I could barely eat. The chicken was overly salty and the apricot and leek stuffing surprisingly bland. The worst part was that it was served on a rissoto textured cuttlefish ink rice. So you're eating black rice that tastes a bit salty and fishy and does not complement the chicken. The waiter did not say anything when the dish was returned almost uneaten. Thank goodness for the crème brûlée that made me feel a bit better about my dining experience.
The breakfast brunch the next morning was stellar! Attentive waiter and just delicious food despite it being buffet style. Made yon for the previous night!
I would go back to this establishment anytime but would not bother to pay for the jacuzzi room or included meal. The atmosphere is unparalleled, but this is not where you'll have a dinner that will knock...
Read moreThe brunch is very good but quite expensive however worth it. You have some very common items like eggs bacon potatoes etc.. then you have some super original dishes like Waigu beef, deer tartar, lobster salad, tiger shrimp, smoked salmon, baked salmon, maple syrup crepes and blood oranges to squeeze yourself yummie! Everything was delicious of you didn't like what you chose then you went back and got other dishes. The downside of our meal was the waitress who decided to ignore us completely and attend to white glove serve the table of 6 French Canadians in front of us converse and laugh with them and keep asking them if they were happy and needed anything else.
Three times we asked for honey for our tea, our tea got cold. Then we only got one honey not two!! Then whenever we had dirty dishes she would not come over to pick them up we had to ask her to do so most of the times or pile up the dishes until it was obvious for her to come and pick them up.
Was it the casual way we were dressed? The colour of our skin? Or our ethnicity that prevented her from doing her job!?? I dont know however we were quite insulted and wished that hiring of people in a famous hotel that sees people from all over the world should have people working there who are open minded and not prejudice in their service they render to customers. Total turn off I dont think we will go back there again! Too bad because the chateau and grounds are...
