A&W Canada — Restaurant in Montreal

NOT RECOMMENDED!!! I ordered breakfast: egg in a burger, fries and coffee. I was not asked whether I would eat here or to go. They just gave me to go, although I wanted to eat in the cafe. Then the potatoes were awful, it felt like they hadn't changed the oil for six months. And when I tried to eat these potatoes it was terribly tasty and with the flavor of old oil. By the way, I go to A&W regularly and I know what the flavor should be. The burger with egg was also not tasty, although I added tomato and salad leaves to it (not the first time I order this too). Now for the coffee, the woman at the register asked how much cream and sugar I wanted. I said 3 cream and 3 sugars. I always take sugar 1 more not just in case, and very often I add half a patekit, depends on the volume of the cup to go. And this woman added cream and sugar to my coffee without telling me, outrageous. It was terribly sweet and tasteless again!!! Unfriendly service. Seem annoyed people are in the restaurant. I went in with intentions of ordering takeout. Asked to use the bathroom and was looked at with silence. I thought maybe it was a language barrier and tried « toilet » with the best French accent I could, still blank stare. Finally the woman says “you have to buy something” I said “I plan to.” They insisted I order first and pay. I did and they finally unlocked the bathroom. I understand many non paying customers dirty bathrooms, but some kindness goes a long way. I’m a tourist passing through and this is the first hostile encounter I’ve had in the city.

Explain it nicely to customers in the future. Yes there is a sign on the bathroom door in French that says you must have a receipt from the past 20 minutes to use it, but I never noticed the sign. I was standing there ready to order and facing the workers.

Food: Mama burger has no flavor. Root beer tastes flat compared to other A&W locations.

Received coupon and came to try this A&W for the 1st time at 6AM in the morning. 1staff taking care of supplier's delivery, 1 staff taking order and 3rd staff come in late. The order was taken with the coupon, but obviously, the POS didn't apply the discount from the coupon's code. Cashier charged without any explanation or negligence of price charged versus supposed discount. And claimed to be unable to refund because of the absence of the manager. Have to pay The regular price with the coupon in hand. I was only coming to A&W to try because I received this coupon. BAD EXPERIENCE!!!
