Ample parking, diligent about checking vaccination passports. Very busy on weekends, quite noisy, music can be a bit loud in places. Very extensive menu, with a variety to please almost any diet. Large portions. The 14 oz prime rib was beautiful- served just past rare as requested (6 pm). Waiter was efficient, and willing to offer options to suit. Garlic mashed potatoes were perfect. Side Caesar salad substituted for vegetables humongous and lightly dressed with croutons. My parents shared the full rack of ribs with a skewer of shrimp, BBQ sauce on the side, with coleslaw and fries. Perfection! The hickory BBQ sauce was incredible, the fries crisp and delicious, served with ketchup and mayonnaise. Bone bowl and wet naps provided in advance by the experienced server. My sister in law and I both had Power Bowls- mine with Buffalo cauliflower wings, hers with crispy shrimp. Finally a light healthy ( & vegetarian) option! Julienned carrots, cucumber ribbons, soy beans 1/2 perfectly ripe avocado and a generous wedge of lime atop a mound of room temperature rice sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds. Just enough sauce to season the rice. Unfortunately, the shrimp and cauliflower were cold. I guess on a busy night coordinating 4 dishes can be a bit challenging. Not a morsel left, and we helped my brother with his Caesar and stole a few of the perfect fries. The baked potatoes passing by looked great. The 2018 Australian Shiraz Cabernet was a lovely blend, and the server noticed that my sister in law’s glass might need refilling and offered, but she needed to drive later and had only had a small taste. We finished with a slice of pecan pie a la mode which was a perfect bite when divided amongst 5, and walked out happy. Shortcomings: Reservations for parties of 7 or more (it says six at the location) only. We made sure to arrive at 5:30 to ensure seating. Otherwise, with another happy hour starting at 9, it’s usually packed until closing on weekends online reservations would be a good idea. As they have a large tented patio out front, a large section of the dining room was closed. I would have closed every second table in another part of the restaurant for social distancing instead. QR codes on the table for menu and wine list seemed to be the only option for English patrons, (my brother had to read the menu from his phone to my parents), some online items were not on the menu at this location. Printed, bound menus were only available in French. It would not kill then to add a small English translation beneath the French on the printed menu as most restaurants do. It appears that they are still trying to get staff after the pandemic challenges, as they were rushing around constantly, working as a team to clear tables, with hostesses and bar staff helping. However, never once did the ball drop, and the kitchen kept up admirably. Congestion at the entry/exit and cramped spacing at the bar concerned me during a third wave regardless of vaccination- diners also seemed to think that unmasking as soon as seated, and not covering up when interacting with the staff was fine. It was probably too busy to ask otherwise… The experience would have merited a 5 star review if the price points were just a little lower. $23 for the power bowls seemed a little steep, but the overall rating would have been a 4 1/2 star if Google maps allowed fraction ratings. Return visit: killer Lotus bowl, and the parents split a burger with cheese and bacon with coke slaw...
Read moreWe went to Baton Rouge Decarie and Decided to sit in the bar area at a table and a waitress came over to say hello and give us a menu and I then asked for the bar menu (as Baton Rouge is my go to restaurant and I frequent this restaurant at least 1-2 times per week.) The waitress returned to ask if we wanted to order any drinks. One of the ladies ordered a diet coke, the other lady asked if Sangria was included in the 5 a 7 drink menu. As the waitress was new and she did not have any one mentoring her, and did not know anything about the special drinks available, she went to inquire and another waitress came over and told us that Sangria was not a part of this 5 a 7. My friend then told her that she would pass on the sangria and I ordered a vodka with white cranberry juice using the vodka that was available with the 5 a 7. The waitress returned with a diet coke, that was flat (it was replaced by a bottle of diet Pepsi) a vodka and cranberry juice and a sangria which was NEVER ordered, it appeared that the waitress was not paying attention to our requests and she took the drink back. We ordered our food, I ordered a Louisiana chicken salad and the waitress asked if I wanted the salad dressed or not and I ordered the salad dressed and extra dressing on the side. One friend ordered a Liver steak with a baked potatoe and my other friend ordered a grilled Calamari entree. Our ordered arrived everything was ok except my salad that came with NO dressing on top, I ordered it with dressing. The waitress just barked at me that she would get some extra dressing.
When our bills arrived I checked me bill as I saw that it was not the usual price. (I mentioned previously that I eat at Baton Rouge at least 1-2 times per week and I know what my bill usually is. I was charged for a grey goose vodka (I asked for the regular 5 a 7 vodka). When the waitress came over to charge our credit cards, I told her that I was charged for the grey good vodka. It was not the $5.00 difference but it’s the principal and I asked to speak to the manager, Jimmy. He came over and I reiterated the story of the vodka and he just argued that was what I ordered, my friends told him that is not what I ordered, I never ordered grey goose. He then brought up the Sangria which was returned to the bar, that was not our fault it was that of the waitress. I told him about my salad, and he just argued with me about the fact that it always comes without dressing. I told him that I come here 1-2 times per week and that is what I usually order and he just told me that I was wrong and if I am not happy don’t come back again. How do you tell someone who is a regular customer not to come back again. We found he was very rude and belligerent. There is a way to talk to customers and it is not to tell customers not to come back! One customer will tell another and then the word gets out. I have reached out to the customer service department but I have not heard...
Read moreWhere do I begin...1st of all I was warned the day before to arrive early cause they will have you waiting even with a reservation and to check your bill cause you will be charged extra. I had reservations for 8pm, brought 2 cakes and still had to wait 20mins to be seated with my Party Guest of 22. Lucky I was pushy cause the actual host forgot me and and my party. Had us sitting in the lobby till the entire crowd cleared. Had to constantly ask her what's the hold up. She said the table wasn't ready.. The service was the worst I've ever had in my entire life. The waiter was ALONE, no team to help him and he expressed that he has been doing this for over 20 years...in his sleep he must have been...he was taking orders of others literally over my head, he was constantly passing others food over my plate which is nasty and rude. After the 3 Rd time he did so I couldn't even eat anymore. He kept mistaking who was who and kept on giving out the wrong plates. All evening he kept on bragging of his 20 years of service and being in the business but he was horrible. He made a messed up comment in regards to US( Black people) all looking alike and for us to stop switching tables cause it's hard for him... I had then asked him to bring out the cakes on 2 different occasions he expressed not till everyone has paid their bills...I was then livid cause now it's after 10 pm and people are tired and want to leave. Took an hour to have to bills taking care of. Which were all a mess..I was charged in total 150$ for food I never even ordered nor had...after 3 tries the 20 year old veteran waiter corrected all of his errors by the help of the HONEST GUEST I had present that night. I went to speak with the manager who clearly knew we were not happy but she remained polite. I asked for both of my cakes back, went home angry and very insulted. I had my friends , whom all are frontline workers to some degree out for an intimate dinner and to be treated like animals...never in my life would I ever step foot back into that restaurant. Food was excellent but the service was HORRIBLE and not worth my hard...
