Sparrow is a delightful casual restaurant on St. Laurent Blvd (just north of Fairmount), in an area with a number of other eateries. The ambiance is dark wood interiors with a bohemian flair with a super size street facing window...so that the restaurant is both dark and light at the same time. Seating is mostly at tables but there are a few bench side options as well as the window abutting coach (low to the ground but a very chill place to chat and snack). We had a weekend brunch...enjoying the scones and jam (surprisingly very good, the scone was served warm with a nice helping of devon cream...but the strawberry jam could have been better), the Fried Egg with Sage (very good), the Belgian Waffle (excellent although the portion was a touch too small) and a Green Salad (very good but simple). We also enjoyed some nice coffees and smoothies. Service was very attentive and friendly adding to the experience. On the late Saturday morning we visited, there were a large number of young family with kids just finishing up, so this appears to be a great place for an early breakfast for the young ones. Enjoy!

I've tried the place Sunday morning for brunch. We got there at 1030 and were seated right away. No signs of lineup the whole time we were there (looking at you l'Avenue!) I loved the Turkish coffee with loukoum. The only thing is the cup is a little small. They offer free refills on filter coffee. The shakshuka was amazing, very authentic flavors. Served with nice thick bread and options of feta or merguez. I added the feta and the portion is generous. None of the plates come with potatoes. My friend and it shared a side of potatoes and I highly recommend it. Very good and perfect size to share. My friend reported that the naan sandwich was a little dry. I think they forgot the cream cheese. They also offer all sorts of drinks, and the classics for brunch; bloody ceasar, mimosa, coffee royal, aperol spritz

My friends and I were sat on the couch, enjoying beautiful drinks and plates of food with incredible flavours. I’ll start with the food. The cauliflower was so good, undoubtedly the highlight. We also ordered fries (some of the best crispy fries I’ve had, the sauce is to die for, please make a poutine???) + the bread and butter, the bread has this … charcoal-y profile as if it just was baked on volcanic rocks. It’s a good thing. Really We were so comfy, the vibes were chill on this Tuesday evening and music at the right volume to allow us to catch up and enjoy. The service was impeccable, our waitress and her colleagues were always checking in on us. I WILL be coming back to try the rest of the menu (and re-order everything I got)

I came here with four of my friends on a rainy Sunday for brunch. We sat down at around 1:45, and didn't get anything at all until 2:45 (not even the mimosas - a two ingredient drink! Will explain below).

First of all, as we arrived, we all ordered our coffees, among which was a capuccino for one of the people in our group. The capuccino was forgotten, until we reminded the waitress about it, who blurted out that "it was completely out of her memory of us ordering it". Okay.

Two people had also ordered Mimosas that would have never arrived had we not also reminded the waitress about it, who, once again, had forgotten the order. Note that the food came before the drinks (!!)

When we were ordering our food, one of my friends was not sure of what he wanted yet, so he was still in the decision process. Seeing as it was taking a little bit of time, my other friend accross the table offered to tell the waitress her order to speed up the process. The waitress just replied "No thats not how it works. It has to be in order. " Very rude and also how about you write it down?

The food was fine, but the service was so terrible at that point that we were just debating whether we should've just stayed home rather than coming to pay a hefty price to be forgotten about!

Once the food arrived, we had to remind the waitress a third time about a plate that she did not bring. She had also forgotten to punch it in, so there went a whole 20 minute wait for someone at our table to get their food.

I gave 2 stars because the food was okay and the ambiance was nice but absolutely terrible service. Not going back nor...

Last night we went to The Sparrow, to show our friends, visiting from England, a nice local bar. Probably the place we come to the most. Everything was great until the very end, when the waitress chased us outside and said to our friend "you didn't leave anything on the table" my friend looked confused, the waitress continued to say "this isn't what we do in Canada" in the most condescending tone I had ever heard since moving here. I said "we paid the tip on the card", and the waitress looked confused and turned round saying "right.. okay" and walked inside.

I understand if the waitress was having a bad day, and even to be rude would be fine, but to deduce we were from England from our accents, and to patronise us, just didn't make sense. In the future I'd recommend giving the customer the benefit of the doubt, maybe there was a mix-up (like there was, as we had tipped on the card), maybe they didn't know they had to tip, there's always a way to sort it out without resorting to this behaviour straight off the bat. I just hope it doesn't happen again to someone coming to the area as a tourist without any locals to show them around. I was quite embarrassed.

My boyfriend and I will definitely not be going back, let alone recommending it to people as a friendly place to...
