They don't like detailed reviews. Had a 4 course/MTL table meal. Service was friendly and professional. Overall meal, barely a 6/10, mostly for blandness and the temperatures dishes were served at. Would not go back.
Appetizer plate delicate, 3 tiny morsels. I liked the duck (8/10) and goat cheese (7/10), but the creme brulee failed (4/10), it was sprinkled with too much sugar, which was soggy, not crystallized. I guess they failed to notice and/or forgot to 'brulee'- like a wet egg omelette. The seafood bisque (6/10) was not creamy or smooth like a bisque but was rustic - nice but it was served tepid. I almost sent it back to have it heated but was too hungry. Served in a pretty little bowl, 2 mussels, 2 shrimp with the 'bisque' but lacked any depth of flavor. The salmon (3/10) as the main course had zero flavour profile to speak of - plus it was undercooked and almost raw. I love sushi, so I ate it, but again, a barely warm plate. The skin was soft and grey and had a slight fishy taste - not so ok. The risotto was very pasty and salty. I told the waitress but she didn't seem to understand and did nothing about it. My son had the Deer Burger (7/10) good but dry. He had to add quite a bit of the mayo to it. Fries with it were good. The desserts are relatively big. My son made the observation that he'd prefer bigger mains and not so much sugar. The Raspberry mousse cloud (7/10) was v pretty, but too much overly sweet meringue. I like pure whipped cream but this had too much added sugar/filler. The maple dessert (7/10) was very creamy, similar to the cream on the Raspberry. The table next to us had the hazelnut which I think I'd have preferred. Would likely rate higher if had our food been served warm and if there had been more flavour...
Read moreI've been to Caribou Gourmand several times in the past for brunch (the first time was nearly 2 years ago for the cabane à sucre menu) and really enjoyed the food and always received good service even when the place was packed, which is why I suggested going there for brunch with my friends yesterday. The service was incredibly slow - they were busy enough since it was Saturday, but not every table was full - the problem is there were only two servers. Took several minutes for anyone to arrive at the front to seat us, and getting refills for water or coffee was extremely slow. Slow service I can forgive if they were understaffed that day, it happens. Servers were at least very nice.
That aside, I was so disappointed by the food. My partner and I both had the Caribou plate, and everything was so bland and already cold when it came out. Had to ask for salt for the eggs and pulled pork. Even my toast was like cardboard. The only thing on the plate I really enjoyed was the sausage. Yes, it's a lot of meat, but for the quality and lack of flavor, it was very overpriced.
Unfortunately, we will probably not return given the decline in quality from the last 2 times we went here for brunch. I hate giving out reviews lower than 4 stars, and I try to be as fair as possible, but I can't really recommend this...
Read moreI have been to Caribou for both brunch and dinner, and the food is fantastic!
The menu changes with the season (aside from a few classic plates that remain permanently) featuring almost entirely local or homemade products; a very creative and exciting perk of this restaurant. I look forward to seeing their new menu as each season arrives!
They have an extensive drinks menus featuring cocktails (including unique, homemade concoctions!), non-alcoholic options, fresh pressed juices, a massive list of local beers, so much wine to choose from, etc etc.
At brunch you can expect healthy portions, sweet and savoury options, vegetarian options, and you can definitely expect delicious!!!
For dinner, well, all I can say is I would literally kill somebody for their risotto; it’s sooooooo delicious. Their cauliflower steak is my personal favourite on their current spring menu! Who knew a veggie could be made to taste so good!? They also have all you can each mussels on Wednesday and Thursday nights starting end of spring through the summer. As for dessert, well you can’t go wrong. My personal favourite was the ‘Ramène pas ta fraise’ (cute name too!).
The staff is always very friendly; the owners/ chefs are in the kitchen pouring their love into each and every plate!
Highly...
