If you're looking for an Italian food experience in Montreal that sets itself apart from the rest, look no further than BIS on de la Montagne Street. Nestled in the heart of downtown Montreal, this gastronomic jewel provides a unique Italian ambiance and the promise of an unforgettable dining journey. First, let's talk about the food. Everything that came out of the kitchen was an exquisite testament to the rich and varied culinary heritage of Italy. The Swordfish was an absolute delight. Cooked to perfection, it flaked off in juicy, mouthwatering morsels, each bite releasing an intoxicating mix of spices and flavors that had us reaching for more. Just as impressive was the Pasta with Veal Sauce. This was no ordinary pasta dish. The pasta itself was al dente, embodying that perfect balance of texture and taste. The veal sauce was incredibly flavorful, deeply satisfying, and lingered delightfully on the palate. These two dishes clearly showcased BIS's ability to transcend the typical and venture into the realm of culinary excellence. A review of BIS would be incomplete without a nod to their remarkable wine selection. It is a veritable treasure trove of some of the finest wines I've had the pleasure to enjoy. Each bottle on their list has been carefully chosen to complement their dishes, and the knowledgeable staff are more than happy to make expert recommendations. Speaking of the staff, they are undeniably a significant part of BIS's charm. Their friendliness and professionalism shone through in every interaction, ensuring our dining experience was not just about great food but also about feeling welcome and taken care of. The ambiance, another crucial aspect of any dining experience, is masterfully curated at BIS. Stepping into the restaurant, you're immediately transported to a charming Italian setting, complete with warm colors and a relaxed, cozy atmosphere. This attention to detail made our dining experience all the more immersive and enjoyable. All in all, BIS offers a unique Italian dining experience that beautifully combines an inviting atmosphere, knowledgeable and friendly staff, a well-curated wine selection, and, above all, truly remarkable food. It’s a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic slice of Italy in downtown Montreal. An absolute gem!

I don’t even know how to start this review, the food, the service, the atmosphere, the experience? It was so excellent that I kept thinking about our experiences at Bis during the rest of the day. It was my first time with a friend here, Marcelo, the manager, greeted us and made us feel home, the waitress was so kind and professional, another waiter was so attentive that it made me feel like I am having the meal of my life. The meat balls were phenomenal, the wine that the manager suggested was exquisite, the warm fresh bread, the olive oil and balsamic were by themselves a tasty meal. The ragù left me speechless, even though I was full, I couldn’t stop eating it. My friend got the osso-buck, the meat was so tender that you can mistake for butter, even the bone marrow had an exquisite taste, as to my coteletta, it was perfection… Just perfect, thin enough to feel light and thick enough to enjoy the breaded meet. The endive salad was so tasty that I felt lost and needed a whole afternoon to just enjoy every bite. Then we had to go all the way and have a full, complete meal. The Limoncello was refreshing, the tiramisu and crème brûlée were to die for, and even the biscotti that is served with the espresso was from another world. To sum this up, this place to me is the best Italian cuisine I have ever had the pleasure to experience, each individual visiting Montreal like myself should try Bis Ristorante. As for the locals you guys are lucky to have this restaurant in your city. Five stars is an understatement, thank you Bis and your team for doing what you do.

Stumbled upon this restaurant after searching for an Italian restaurant with no corkage fee. Surprisingly I was directed to this establishment although it isn't BYOB. However, with lots of great reviews I decided to take the plunge. Located in a very nice area surrounded by little restaurants and busy streets my hope were high. Arrived, we were seated and the order was taken. The menu was quite complete and the wine selection was excellent. Food prices were high but it's what I was expecting and I have no problem paying for quality. Opted for an antipasto and it was very good and well presented. Drinks were nicely chilled and slightly more expensive than I expected. For the main course I went with the suggestion of the server since he was suggested breaded veal with pasta and it sounded good. My wife ordered a seafood dish. Each plate was priced somewhere in the high $30s. Every was going well until the food arrives and it was a bit of a disappointment. Pasta was bland and the veal wasn't anything special. The portions were were smaller than I would have expected. Neither of us were impressed with the meal and considering the price, we won't be returning. After leaving, I found it funny that they have so many five star reviews! This is probably what led me to make this reservation but the only description that can sum up my experience is disappointed.

I am writing to express my profound disappointment and utter dissatisfaction with the experience my party and I had at Restaurant BIS recently. I feel compelled to share my concerns and recount the unfortunate events that unfolded during our visit.

To begin with, I am not one to write reviews unless my experience is exceptionally positive or exceptionally negative. Regrettably, in the case of Restaurant BIS, it falls into the latter category. Our reservation was for a table of 16 people, and it is worth mentioning that the restaurant had the audacity to demand a $500 deposit in advance. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, such as flight delays and a few cancellations, our group size diminished to 11 individuals.

Upon our arrival and subsequent notification of the change in our party size to the owner, we were met with unparalleled disrespect and rudeness. The owner's behavior can only be described as a temper tantrum, during which he attempted to publicly embarrass me by condescendingly speaking down to me in front of not only my guests but also other diners in the vicinity.

Despite explaining that we were still a party of 11, the owner responded with a threatening remark, stating that any further objections from me would result in our exclusion from dining at his establishment that night. This final interaction proved to be the breaking point for us, as we had no desire to continue our evening at a place that exhibited such terrible, unprofessional, and downright nasty behavior.

I am compelled to express my disappointment not only because of the unfortunate circumstances that led to the reduced party size but also due to the appalling manner in which we were treated. The hostile and unprofessional behavior demonstrated by the owner was completely unwarranted and unacceptable. As customers, we expected to be treated with a minimum level of respect and understanding, particularly in situations that are beyond our control.

Considering the demeaning encounter we endured, we made the unanimous decision to seek an alternative dining option that night. Naturally, we also decided against contributing any further financial support to such a disreputable establishment.

I believe it is essential to bring this matter to your attention, as the experience we had at Restaurant BIS falls far below the standard of service and professionalism that customers rightfully expect. I sincerely hope that appropriate measures will be taken to address this issue and ensure that other guests do not have to endure such...

The absolute worst customer service I have ever received.

Peter was our "server"; however, we strongly felt he didn't care about "serving" us. He didn't ask us how we were doing. He didn't ask us a single personal question, instead he spent less than 2 minutes at our table during the entire course of the meal.

The food was delicious and came very quickly. I highly recommend the cuttlefish ink pasta with shrimp and scallop. Delicious sauce, perfectly al dente pasta, and tender seafood.

After bringing our menus, I asked Peter if there were any cocktails he would recommend, "I don't know. Get whatever you like." His exact response. Once food was brought to us, we didn't see Peter again until it was time for the bill. In fact, we had to ask another server to bring us our bill since Peter was too busy ignoring us.

Now, I always tip. Always, but Peter's service made it impossible for me to do so without having a discussion with him first. Before I could begin to discuss the service with Peter, I was told I had to tip and that tipping was mandatory. In fact, he stared at me putting in my pin. I was wearing a t-shirt, so I assumed he assumed I would be a lousy tipper and thus, provided poor service. His attitude became a self-fulfilling prophecy and we didn't tip.

I wanted to ask Peter if he normally treats his customers this way, before I could actually ask, he was going off, quite loudly, about how "YOU HAVE TO TIP." I had had enough. We finished paying and walked out.

To our surprise, Peter followed and yelled at us into the streets, "Thanks for the tip. [sarcastically] Don't come back." Believe me, I won't. It's a shame because the cuttlefish pasta was delicious.

I would have tipped had Peter maintained any sense of humility, asked us politely, or explained his...
