This place used to be amazing, but there’s been a decline over the years and now they’re mediocre at best. I’d say it’s time to focus on either the bakeries or the frozen products sold by places like Lufa farms or Gutsies (Ottawa), because it seems to me like they can’t handle both.
Frozen items such as the puff pastry or par cooked croissants are still worth the cost, but the supposed “fresh” pastries are not. The products being sold in store are not fresh, the muffins my mother and I purchased today were so dry we assume they were at least 3 days old based on past experience with their muffins. Croissants purchased last week were over-baked, the Opera cake layers were very dry, and the Mille feuille was mediocre as it contains no custard and the cream used lacked flavour.
The owner seems to comment on negative reviews and I don’t want a reply with empty excuses that try to act like the massive decline in quality is my imagination, so I want to state that until end of 2021, excluding any pandemic related closures, I used to come here or have someone pick up for me at least once a week in the summer and about every 2-3 weeks in other seasons. I recall very few negative experiences, and even those would have been a one item issue not a whole order issue, it used to be so good that it was part of why I was so excited to return to Montreal but 3 visits/orders later and other than the frozen puff pastry I have nothing...
Read moreIf I could give this place 10 stars I would. There's an alright selection of gluten free products in Toronto but Montreal as a whole made that look like nothing, this bakery in particular. The products don't look gluten free which is usually your first sign they'll actually taste good since let's be real gluten free usually looks like a smaller cardboard version of normal food. They have a good selection of fancier cakes and such as well as smalle baked items like tarts, turnovers and croissants as well as pies and quiches. I haven't had a croissant in about 10yrs, since I was diagnosed as celiac. I'm still not convinced they don't have leprechauns in the back baking because other than a slightly (and I stress slightly) heavier dough it tasted like a normal croissant. They also have frozen goods and even sheets of frozen gluten free puff pastry. I love to bake but it's so difficult to bake gluten free at home and puff pastry is next to impossible if you don't have an industrial sized freezer to cool it as you go. Yes it's a little pricy but not break the bank pricy and when is gluten free not a little more. Basically this place is gold and if you're celiac or just gluten free by choice this is the perfect place to visit for a treat if you're...
Read morePrejudice Service, Good Croisants. I went to this location for the first time today and the girl that took my order was quite inapropriate. I am an aglophone from Vancouver that recently relocated to Montreal. I started my order by asking of she spoke english (i asked in French). She replied in english that she did and then asked if I was American or Canadian, and then went on to say it doesn't matter but some people pose as French Canadian and then continued by telling me how it is a privaliage to be French. She questioned how long I have lived in the city and told me she wasn't judging me for not learning the language yet. I just wanted a couple gluten free croisants. Anyway, I felt the comments were inappropriate and unprofessional. The croissants from this location were just, ok. I will not return to this location.
I normally shop at Le Marquis on St.-Paul and have had great experiences. Professional, friendly service with amazing croissants (still warm) even at the same time of day. The last time I went here I had the quiche and a pear...
