Overall: 8.25/10 Food: 8.5/10 Service: 9/10 Atmosphere: 7/10
Was pretty excited to get a chance to try out the food at this restaurant after seeing some posts all over my feed. Overall the food and service was great throughout the night and atmosphere was alright as well.
We made a reservation 2 weeks in advance on Mother’s Day. And was politely greeted to our seats when we arrived.
When it came to the food, we really wanted to try out all the dishes, so we ordered and shared the dishes. When it came to the entrees we ordered the side of bread with the garlic spread, we also had the oysters, the salad (SALADE D'ENDIVES POIRE & BLEU, JUS DE VOLAILLE & MIEL) and the scallops (PÉTONCLES FRAIS, CHORIZO DE PASCAL). We really enjoyed the salad (SALADE D'ENDIVES POIRE & BLEU, JUS DE VOLAILLE & MIEL) and scallop (PÉTONCLES FRAIS, CHORIZO DE PASCAL) dishes and definitely recommend getting those to share. As for the mains, we had the fish dish (bar a la grenobloise), pasta (SPAGHETTI PESTO RAPINIS ANCHOIS & MOULES FUMÉES), the sausage dishes (SAUCISSE PURÉE CASAVANT) and the (ONGLET DE BOEUF SAUCE AU POIVRE TOPINAMBOURS & MAITAKE). Among the main dishes, the standouts were the fish and the pasta dishes. We felt the meat dishes were a bit underwhelming.
As for the service, we found it to be very attentive throughout the evening, and the waiting staff answered any questions we had about the menu, and constantly checked up on us to see if the food was to our liking. We also appreciated that they accommodated the service to English. Overall the service was excellent.
When it came to the overall atmosphere, it was alright, nothing amazing. We enjoy the overall location of the restaurant but I’m sure it is much better when the terrace is open during the summer. We just found the seating a bit cramped other than that the interior of the...
Read moreIt wasn't difficult to see why Casavant is on the Michelin Guide. The atmosphere was very cozy and elegant, with warm, ambient lighting and everything set to perfection.
The service was amazing, I was never out of water and all my questions were answered well. When our dishes were served, we even got a description of each component.
The food itself was delicious. We started off with the scallops appetizer. It was in this refreshing green sauce, topped with what I assumed was caviar. For mains, I got the pasta in the lobster sauce whereas my partner got the fish. The pasta was aldente and paired really nicely with the sauce. The fish dish was very interesting. I loved how all the taste profiles fit together, making it my favorite dish of the night. Finally, we ended with an almond and peach crumble. It was a lovely way to end the night.
Overall, everything about this restaurant shows how much effort is being put in to maintain their status on the Michelin Guide. Im glad I was able...
Read moreCasavant earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand and I can see why. The poultry mousse stuffed morels are the kind of dish an inspector would notice and the tender hangar steak with whelks and fiddleheads was an utter delight, if a bit small as a portion size.
Special mention for Casavant’s divine twist on the classic profiterole, replacing the cream with rhubarb and ricotta.
Slight hiccup with the paccheri neri (tube-shaped pasta made with black squid ink) served with lobster, pea leaves, and tomato bisque. The bisque needed something, maybe more garlic or seasoning to elevate the dish to where it belongs.
Bib Gourmands are awarded to restaurants that offer what’s deemed as good value, and $135 for 2 before drinks, tax, and tip is not too shabby for elevated brasserie appetizers, main dishes, and a shared dessert featuring sought-after in-season ingredients.
Nice wine list too. They even have piquette.
Dress up a little if you want, but not too much. Service is elegant,...
