Opening a business in the middle of this pandemic takes guts. But I suppose that when you believe in your product, guts is the least of your concern. Gaining the respect of your neighbourhood is paramount when starting a new restaurant despite believing in your product. Tonight I ordered a family plate of their beef kababs that get served with pita and barbecued tomatoes for delivery. Evidently, some communication error happened and when I called an hour later to inquire about the missing food, the owner was shocked and bothered… he insisted that he would make a fresh batch of kababs and bring them over himself… I was sceptical… 10 minutes later the ORIGINAL order showed up at my door. I thanked the driver, and called the restaurant to inform them that I had finally received the order. The owner told me to keep them, but to hold on, cause he was about to leave with the fresh order. 5 minutes later he rang my door, hand delivered them himself and apologized. My wife, child and I sat down, and ate the fresh batch. Stomachs are now full. The kababs were spectacular. The tomatoes were juicy and caramelized. And the bread under the kababs that absorbed all the fats and juices took a year off my life, and was worth dying for.
They have gained my respect, my loyalty and my appetite.
There is only one problem with the restaurant, and I hope they fix it soon…
They aren’t answering the phone saying HELLO CHELOW!
Well done CHELOW. May you succeed for years to come. See...
Read moreWhen Chelow BBQ announced their soft opening this week, I knew I had to try it out. Raised on middle eastern cuisine, I am very familiar with many of the spices and combinations used so I was excited to try! I ordered serveral dishes to try them out. The chicken and beef combo was very nice. There's a hint of lamb in the kebab, comes with rice, a roasted tomatoes, a coleslaw type salad and a yogurt based sauce with mint and cucumber. Everything was fresh and delicious but I found the rice a little bland. The soup (ash resteh) was probably my least favorite. If it was supposed to have a soup texture, it did not, perhaps the noodles and chickpeas absorbed the water because it arrived as a mush. If youve ever had Moroccan Harrira soup, it was similar to that. The Gorhmeh Sabzi is a parsley based sauce with beef, comes with rice on the side. If this is your mail meal, there really wasn't enough beef slices inside, maybe 4 small chunks but the taste was nice. Lastly the Mirza, is eggplant based, I found it very tasty and probably my favorite of the side dishes. I received 2 little containers of sumac. Overall, it was good, If you like restaurant Aryana Afghan then you'll definitely like this, it's very similar in style and taste of food. One thing that was missing from my entire meal was pita or some sort of bread. The food, as you can see is very saucy and a nice piece of pita to scoop it up would have...
Read moreI am not sure how this restaurant got 5 stars (probably internal reviews) .
I went yesterday with my friends and ordered different meals.
Here are my honest and sincere comments:
The menu is different on the website, on paper and in store Only 2 people were working and thats why i gave 2 stars as I feel bad for these employees taking it all on their shoulders! The BBQ beef was very spicy and RAW and we complained but the waiter did not even offer a discount although she saw the raw meet!!!!! I lived in Canada for 22 years and was offered a discount when i had a similar issue and sometimes my meal would be offered for free... We waited good 25 minutes for our meals to come The service was completely off, no plates or utensils were received before the meal nor water or soup and the kids got angry by the time we received our food The salad had no dressing and when we asked for a dressing we received a very tiny portion that could not be enough for half a plate 7.the BBQ chicken was very hard to chew I came back home with a bad abdominal pain and had diarrhea (prob food poisoning from raw meet)
Please google reviewers be honest with your...
