We ended up here quite by accident late on Thanksgiving night when there weren't many other open restaurants in the neighborhood. My friend and I were both hangry after a long drive and lengthy border crossing, and I was frazzled. All of the staff at Chez Victoire were perfect - just the right mix of impeccable professionalism and friendly joviality that makes it clear that they are all experienced and well taught. The atmosphere was calm and warm, and the server's wine recommendations were spot on. Personally, I was disappointed in the menu, but that was because of my own dietary restrictions. As a pescatarian who can't eat raw oil and butter without a gallbladder, and as a human who detests the taste of smoke, there was really nothing I could eat here without asking far too much of the chef. I settled on a tomato salad that listed balsamic in the ingredients, but not olive oil. Being as hungry and tired as I was, I forgot to mention my sensitivity, so my ensuing days of illness were all my fault. What I tried of the salad was lovely, and my friend enjoyed his tuna tartare. Again, the wait staff seemed concerned that I wasn't eating much, and I'm sure they could have figured something out for me if I had spoken up. I despise being a fussy American when I travel, but I'm sure they would have been friendly and accommodating.
I now know that French cuisine no longer works with my body, and I will not hesitate to speak up again. I want to thank the staff at Chez Victoire, however, for as lovely an experience as possible under the circumstances. You all do great work. If French food is your friend, you're going to...
Read moreThis was our second visit to this restaurant, we live in Toronto, so since finding this gem, we add it to our visits as a must go. Our most recent visit the food was equally outstanding as before, we just go full on set menu each time you will be blown away. However, although we booked a week in advance, I don't think the restaurant was expecting to be as busy for a sunday or had a server shortage issue. So we were sat upstairs which is my now least favourite place to be in the restraunt there were options of high tables or at the bar but nothing else in the main restraunt and the waiting staff stuck the 3 of us on a slightly oversized table for 2...and said the other tables were reserved...eventually they let us move to a neighboring table. The food, as expected was outstanding, so made up for the wonky service this trip. BUT compared to our first visit which was simply outstanding service, on a quieter also sunday night, where we were served by Veronique (if my memory serves me well) who was simply the best server and she made our night special, added to the food was the reason we will continue to return to this unpretentious little rare find and hope to have her host us again. OH AND IF they ever have Grand-père as a desert option....omg, please do not ignore... This is close to Michelin Star rated food without the fuss. Don't miss out and try this place. We will...
Read moreMy recent experience at this French restaurant was disappointing, especially as we were celebrating my son's 19th birthday. Despite notifying the staff in advance of the occasion, they showed no awareness or acknowledgment.
The service was particularly poor. Although we promptly placed our order, the staff seemed disinterested and inattentive throughout the evening, except for one wait staff. We had requested to move to a quieter area due to the noisy and multiple rowdy patrons nearby, but our request was dismissed without consideration. We felt unwelcome throughout the night.
As for the food, it fell short of expectations for a French restaurant. The quality was below average, leaving much to be desired in terms of taste and quality.
Overall, this restaurant failed to provide a pleasant dining experience for such an important celebration. From the lack of attention to our special request to the disappointing food quality and indifferent service, I would not recommend this establishment for...
