I will start by saying that the food is ok. Nothing crazy but not bad either. Many places around or on par and of course some others much better. I waited 2 minutes to be seated at the door, nobody came so I decided to sit on the terrace. After about another 2-3 minutes, nobody came , so I picked up the food and drinks menu from the table next to me ( still uncleaned after the last customers ). For fifteen minutes nobody came ( despite only having 8 customers on the terrace and 6 inside ) so I finally raised my hand ( don't like doing this ); to call a lady. Smiling she said she is coming . One minute later she came with a glass of water so I was ok, as she was all smiles. She left and said she will be back to take my order if I am ready. I said yes. 5 minutes passed and she forgot. I called her again. She came apologizing and took my order. I asked for a beer but she said she will send somebody else " who knows ". I told her I know what I want but she insisted on sending somebody else. A very nice guy arrived and asked me in English what beer I wanted. I pointed at the menu and showed him the 1 st beer on the menu - blonde tchèque. He apologized and said no more. I asked him another blonde and he said the same. I asked for a third one and he said the same. He apologized and said the season " has started " and there are less choices. Here I am asking for my 4th beer from the menu and the same answer. At this point he asked me if I like blonde beer ...and said yes. So he says , I will bring you one that you will like. I am like...ok. He brings a Gagellan. I told him I hope I like it. He smiled and left. Came back , open the can and filed my glass. When I tasted it...not good. Not a blonde but a red, and very citrus flavour. I got my food, ate my food , my beer glass was still full. Nobody came to ask if I liked the food or the beer. I hurry up to finish the food and leave. I chased them to get the bill and after another 10 minutes I finally got it . Nobody asked anything. If I liked the food or the drink...although my beer glass is still full and so is the can. Not going to give service classes here...but I think these are some basic rules. Nice terrace for summer days. I think as well, very short staff. Verdict :...
Read moreSham Mont-Royal is truly a hidden gem! From the moment we stepped in for an early dinner, we were warmly greeted by the owner himself, who went above and beyond to make our experience memorable. His friendliness and helpfulness in guiding us through the menu made us feel right at home.
We opted for a selection of three entrees and four plates to share, and each dish surpassed our expectations. The freshly squeezed mint and lemon juice was a refreshing delight, reminiscent of the best lime mojito but with a healthy twist.
Without a doubt, the falafel stole the show - the best we've ever tasted, according to our entire table. The mouhammara and the "chicken meat skewers" were also outstanding, with the latter being so tender and juicy that it could easily be mistaken for real meat. The presentation of every dish was spectacular, all of them bursting with colours and mouthwatering aromas.
One of the highlights was the meat dish made with oyster or shiitake mushrooms, which was succulent and bursting with flavor. Despite the generous portions, we couldn't resist indulging in every bite because everything was so delicious.
To top off our meal, we savored the faux strawberry cheesecake, which was simply divine. Its texture and taste were so convincing that we couldn't believe it was vegan - it surpassed its non-vegan counterpart in every way.
We can't wait to return, especially for those irresistible drinks and...
Read moreThe website only lists the Mozart Ave location and the phone number listed on Google for this location doesn’t work, but it is open! It’s a really casual place, order and pick up your food at the counter, and it looked like everything was being done by one man, at least out front. He was really nice and really seemed to care about making good food for his customers, and I felt like his attitude brought a lot of warmth to the place. I had a half Shawarma and half Shish Taouk plate. I didn’t realize you could do half and half until the owner(?) suggested it. I will admit I couldn’t really tell the difference between the two, but that is of very little importance because it was absolutely delicious food. The shredded “meat” (I think it’s made from mushrooms) was super flavourful and the texture was great, same with the whipped garlic sauce. Big portion but it’s all healthy stuff. Everything about this meal and the place hit the spot. As I always say when I find really good vegan eats, you do not have to be vegan or vegetarian to appreciate the flavour of this food, BUT as someone who does not eat chicken or other meats usually used in this type of cuisine I can especially appreciate that places like this exist so I can experience those...
