I’m honestly still in shock from my experience here. I ordered a poutine and discovered a cockroach or some kind of bug in it. When I brought it back to the counter and calmly explained the situation twice, the staff member screamed at me and said she didn’t understand what I was saying. Instead of addressing the concern respectfully, she walked to the back and showed the food to the kitchen staff while completely ignoring me for 2–3 minutes.
Then, right in front of me, she took out a can of RAID and stared at it, like that was somehow an appropriate response. She finally turned to me and asked if I wanted her to make another one. Obviously, I said no and requested a refund. She told me she had to call the manager, which she did — but once off the phone, she handed me my money without a single word. No apology. No acknowledgment. Nothing.
Not only was the situation disgusting, but the complete lack of professionalism, basic courtesy, and food safety awareness was appalling. I will not be returning, and I strongly urge others to check their food carefully if they choose...
Read moreOverall, it's a decent place, but value could be better and some fine tuning. This place was once an institution in the area.
Food over all is good. However, the slab of raw onion the put on a burger overpowers the burgers' nice flavor.
Their use of dipping the bun and steaming them does make them soft but almost like soggy bread.
Their portions are a bit on the small side for a $13-$15 burger and fries. As much as $20 if you want a poutine. I had a burger and fries with a beer, and it was over $28, and I left hungry. I thought about getting another sm fries ($4), but my partner was almost finished, so we just settled and left.
The atmosphere was fine other than the fruit flies that wouldn't leave us alone, the taped up booth, and the mens washroom with a hole in the floor.
Staff was pleasant and attentive.
Tips: make the fires size a bit bigger with the burgers, use a larger bun to withstand the steaming/ddipping. Maybe dip a bit less and throw it on the grill. Possibly add an oz or two to the patty to keep the balance of the larger...

Other Hamburgers can’t compete. I have been eating them all my life for more than 60 years. Before eating at the original store I ate them a Gus Dilallo’s variety store on Springland Ave. in the 1960s. Sadly, Gus, the oldest Son passed away. Later, In my teen years into adult I went to the original store on Monk Blvd. My family knew the Dilallo family.
So how did this 1929 buger establishment start. The Original store on Monk Blvd. Was a fruit stand. Outside was a taxi stand and the drivers would get the owners to do up some burgers. Of course the taxi customers had access to those burgers - the word got around Montreal.
The restaurant has been visited by many top names in sports and show business. If you haven’t tasted one - Do it, you will...
