The folks at this bakery have a clever sense of humor that I couldn't help but appreciate. They've set up two tip jars, one labeled "Chocolatine" and the other "Pain au chocolat," which, for those in the know, is a playful nod to the ongoing pastry wars. If you're familiar with this delightful culinary debate, it's sure to put a smile on your face as it did for me. And if you're not, it's a fun opportunity to learn something new. It's safe to say that my coins found their way into the "Chocolatine" jar – wink-wink.
But the highlight of my visit was the purchase of a loaf of Miche neuf grains. This artisanal bread is a medley of rich flavors from nine different grains, and a subtle tang courtesy of its sourdough preparation. What struck me was the perfect balance – the crust wasn't overly thick, and the crumb didn't have those large, gaping holes you often find in artisanal loaves. This made it the ideal choice for crafting a delicious sandwich.
Additionally, I can't emphasize enough how satisfying it was for a nutritious breakfast. Whether you toast it and spread some butter and jam, or pair it with your favorite toppings, this bread elevates your morning meal. It's evident that the bakers here take pride in their craft, and the quality of their offerings speaks for itself. A visit to this bakery is not only a treat for the taste buds but also a nod to the playful side of...
Read moreAll stars for the bread loaves and sourdough (not judging pastries, they're ok but not superb). I still think this is the best option in the area for good bread. Is it cheap? No. But the price is fair and the quality for daily bread is very good. I wanted to say my experience going to this bakery was good, but... It's a complicated relationship.
I read several complaints about the staff, and yep, sometimes they seem to be inattentive. Which I understand, many are young folks who are probably in college learning their ways through. But watch out for not paying extra for your items, they may get confused with the types of item you requested and their actual price (happened to me). However, I don't blame them for not being fast. They're learning. The bad side is that the place can get messy with long lines.
The other problem with this bakery is that lately none seems to be checking the inventory and projecting sales. So sometimes you go there at 11am - 12pm and there are very few options of bread (they close at 6pm).
So TL;DR some types of bread are very good and the place could benefit from more...
