THE WORST experience. Google Belle Province Hot Dog and Cocaine and you'll read a Montreal newspaper article from November 2013 detailing that this restaurant was raided by police who arrested their employee who was dealing cocaine out of the back bar. Put it in google translate to get the English story. During my visit for breakfast, the owner's son lied to me twice (see below) so it came as no surprise when I went home and found this article that stated the owner lied to the police and said that the drug dealer didn't work at their restaurant even though the Police had surveillance of him working there. And now for my miserable experience here: Walked in for breakfast well after the rush. There was no line and there were at least 3 tables for 4 open in the back. I sat at a table in front that was full of dirty dishes. It was a bright window table and not in the back bar area where it was dark and there are betting machines. When the waiter (actually the owner's son; father wasn't there) came over, instead of greeting me, he asked if I was alone and when I said yes, he said I had to move, that the table was for 2 or more. I was stunned and offended. 30 minutes later, I finally got my order and he told me again I would have to move if a family he was expecting arrived. (They never arrived.) Again, I was speechless. He had first served me coffee with no sugar or sweetener on the table and then even got my eggs wrong. When I asked for the wifi password, he hesitated and then gave it to me and then lied and said the wifi was down, not working. Well, I immediately logged on to the wifi and used it the entire time I was there. He never came over once after that to check if all was ok. He ignored me the entire time. I suggest his father teach him about customer relations and simple common decency and respect for his customers. The son wanted to maximize his revenue rather than serve me courteously. Well that has backfired because I will never go back. Food was average, price was higher than at similar diner joints, and the food was nothing that you can't get at a hundred other restaurants...
Read moreGreat place for a cheap brunch. It used to be a "Belle Province" but became an independent brunch/restaurant place. They serve the usual breakfast as well as poutine, burgers, hotdogs ... The service great and the owner very dedicated. The food is pretty cheap, portions are huge!! It attracts a local crowd, friendly locals, French and English alike. I recommend it for a small group: 2-4 people. Only downside is it's sometimes a little slow, but patience is always rewarded.
Edit: went there for brunch for the 10th time, never disappointed. Once the owner had forgotten me, but he came back and apologized, gave us free ferreroes and maple syrup....
It’s sad, in the dawn of 2019 approaching, that racism is still present in a society like ours... The food is okay but I was just asked to pay my bill plus the tip BEFORE I actually sat down at a table. You’re probably thinking that it doesn’t necessarily means that the action was motivated by racism and I agree BUT when I’m the only black person in the place and that the 5 other WHITE clients being served by that very same waitress are not asked to pay upfront, it raises the question... We are lucky to be in a country where we can be everything we wish to be but racism has no place in the restaurant business. That being said, if you’re craving for fast food, it’s not bad at all BUT MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT ANYTHING OTHER THAN...
