My recent dining experience at this Lebanese gem left me utterly impressed and thoroughly satisfied! From the moment I stepped into the bustling restaurant, I knew I was in for a treat.
The initial wait to place my order was pleasantly managed by the cashier, who, despite the busy atmosphere, extended a sincere apology and even offered me a complimentary drink. When I declined, the generosity didn't stop there – I was presented with a special Lebanese chocolate, which I had as a dessert later on.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show – the food. I indulged in the Shawarma wrap, Manakeesh with zaatar, cheese, and lahem ba ajin. Every dish was a symphony of flavors, but the Shawarma wrap and the lahem ba ajin stole the spotlight. The Shawarma was a perfect blend of succulent chicken and savory goodness, while the lahem ba ajin was exceptionally tasty and loaded with flavor.
The staff's friendliness and genuine hospitality were evident throughout my visit, making me feel not just like a customer, but a welcomed guest. The extra mile they went with the complimentary treat showcased their commitment to ensuring a memorable experience for every diner.
Overall, this Lebanese restaurant exceeded my expectations in terms of both service and cuisine. The flavors were authentic, the atmosphere was lively, and the staff went above and beyond to make my visit special. Without a doubt, I will be returning to savor more of their delectable offerings. Five stars – this place is a true...
Read moreLike most strollers on Notre Dame on a Saturday afternoon, activity is the genesis as to which restaurant to try. Today was different as the police were out in full force adding to the allure of something place new to eat. Young people waiting in line and the smells of grilled food through an open door had me trying the food of Lulu Epicerie. Within minutes I had struck up a conversation with Youssef the owner operator filled with Lebanese charm and hospitality. The interior of Lulu is scruffy almost war torn in kind but the food is made with love and peace The shish taouk sandwich was made with pieces of grilled chicken (not from the off rotating spit)with a modest garlic sauce, crunchy pickles and a home made bread that was soft and light The combination was so good that I allowed Youssef to prepare me another sandwich of his choice. I had an excellent shawarma sandwich with onions,French fries ,chunks of grilled beef and the wonderful home made bread again. An open hearth oven in the back is not for bagels but leavening a Lebanese bread served at breakfast For reference the family of Lulu also operates Barley and Heni where jazz is played on Wednesday nights Bottom line: Lulu's is an excellent Lebanese street...
Read moreI consider this shop to be one of the best expressions captured by an affordable food establishment in the city and province (and perhaps country).
Yet I've been reluctant return for a few months now, ever since Michael left. Mike picked up the community from where Youssef left it. It's been a smooth relay thus far.
But the memory of the chicken shawarma overpowered me today. I went in with my family, and the Michael/Youssef sized hole was not filled. It's a high bar, but a necessary one to meet, if Lulu continues to aspire to be a home away from home. Right now, it is not that.
Right now, it's slinging the best shawarmas you can possibly eat in North America, that is certain. Somehow, they've made their shawarma sandwich better. Yes, I'll be the first to admit that the quality control of Lulu can at times be as unstable as the Quebecois government (especially the manakish), but when you come in at the right occasion, it doesn't get any better.
Is Lulu a 5/5 food establishment? After today, no doubt. I didn't realize that the food alone could carry Lulu to greatness.
Does Lulu aim to be more than a food provider? Evidently yes. So despite how impossible it may seem, finding the second-coming of...
