It seems that the other yoga studios do a better job of advertising, but based on my research and personal experience, this is the best yoga studio in Montreal.
Absolutely the most class choices lead by well-trained and personable yogis in both French and English. As a primarily English speaker, I didn't find the French element distracting at all. And if I didn't understand, I could always just look up and watch the instructor.
Lots of varieties of yoga at many convenient times.
Beautiful waiting room and studio offering free hot herbal tea and cold water in real china or a real glass. The bathrooms are always spotless.
There is an atmosphere of an oasis created by a generous spirit. The owner leads a community accessable class once a week for $10. Other ways of seeing if you like it is to try a free class, and then there are very generous introductory plans.
The only thing I would change would be the mat rentals policy. At $2 per class it isn't much, but it can add up if you're there for a while. All other studios I have attended in other countries have had free mats available.

Read moreI attended a class at Akasha tonight. It was not a good experience. The first thing that hit me upon entering the building, before even going up the stairs, is the heat and bad smell! It’s 11° outside so I was initially confused that they didn’t have the windows open. I mentioned the smell to one of the people at the reception, who explained that many had already complained and that they would do something about it soon. A class had just ended, and mine was starting. The room, which still smelled despite the windows being open, quickly became packed beyond what should be acceptable. People were not respecting the marks on the floor that indicate where they should lay their yoga mats, they were just finding any empty spot. This included a guy next to me. He was so close I couldn’t stretch my arms and felt very uncomfortable the entire time as he was coughing and breathing heavily. During the class the room started smelling bad again despite the windows being open. The teacher herself was fine. She walked around the room giving instructions and correcting those who had the consent card laid out (a great idea). But the overall experience...
Read moreI had the most stressful day of my life, docking a big boat in the wind, my dad dropped his phone in the canal, we hired a diver to retrieve it, fixing the air-conditioning a heat wave! I was ready to melt down. Looked for close yoga and found this!!! 5 minutes from lachine canal where I am staying, super affordable drop in rate, everybody was super nice, they rent mats for $2 (which i didn't expect, but I needed cause I'm traveling)
Our instructor had relaxation yin planned, but switched to restorative relaxation when she saw how frazzled everybody was with the heatwave. Suuuper relaxing, gave you all the time and space in the world.
All I can say is I feel much better, and that was exactly what I needed to wind down from a day that...
