We accidentally discovered this restaurant. The high Google reviews caught my attention, but the photos didn’t seem to justify the ratings—the food lacked that signature seafood boil appeal. Still, I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, my gut feeling was right; the place felt overrated, possibly due to inflated reviews.
For context, I’ve enjoyed seafood boils in California, Hawaii, and Houston—some of the best places for this cuisine. Now in Montreal, I had low but realistic expectations for Ooh Crab, and it still disappointed.
Upon entering, we were greeted by a host (likely the owner) who seemed disinterested, spending most of his time on his phone. You’re required to order, pay, and tip before receiving any service, which made the experience feel very transactional. As others have mentioned, no water is offered—you have to purchase bottled water. It seems they aim to avoid doing dishes since everything is disposable except for the cutlery, which I suppose is a smart move operationally.
We ordered the Jumbo Mix for with rice and potatoes. Sensing it wouldn’t be enough, we added the fried calamari with shrimp, totaling nearly $100 before taxes and tip. The shrimp and rice were good, but the lobster tail was overcooked and had noticeably shrunk. The crab legs were small, frozen, and also overcooked. Clearly most of the seafood served were frozen. The only decent dish was the fried calamari and shrimp, which is hard to mess up.
We tried to make the most of it, but I would pass on returning. At this price point, there are too many better...
Read moreNewly opened! I've been waiting all week for this meal so here goes: I wanted to try everything so we may have over done it! The shrimp and crab legs bags were probably my favorite items (note: if you're eating the crab at home, make sure you have the tools needed. We may or may not have learned the hard way 🤪). I chose the Ohh crab sauce for the shrimp, it's basically a butter and garlic sauce, the shrimp were headless but you still have to peel the shell. They were very fresh and tender A+. I didn't know what to expect with the "fully loaded shrimp", my husband enjoyed it but it wasn't my favorite. French fries on the bottom, nacho cheese, a spicy red sauce, breaded shrimp and jalapenos... dynamite shrimp was breaded shrimp with some sort of hot sauce on a bed of red cabbage. The fried calamari and shrimp plate was very good, very flavorful. Unfortunately I was missing the sauce so didn't get the full experience but I would definitely try it again. Overall: I was impressed with my first experience considering they just opened! The owner was very kind and I would definitely recommend the bags and order again! Side note: we received bibs, gloves and cutlery when...
Read moreI have never been so excited to give a review. It was a blessing to have visited this place, I appreciate your kindness. We were 2 adults and 2kids. We arrived after 2pm, the restaurant was empty usually it is a red flag for me but my spirit was calm. The food was excellent, the house sauce was dangerously GOOD, the rice perfect, everything was perfect(I never say that about a restaurant). I tell you this place will be so busy that if I arrive after 2pm I will have to stand in a line outside. Please don’t change anything when you get more clients, you can increase your price but keep the quality please. The other adult I came with had visited another Crabe place in the West Island the passed Wednesday and she was able to say this was the best place. I had nothing to compare but a craving to satisfy. I leave in hawkesbury I don’t care about the drive I will be back again with a friend. I LOVE that the drinks can in its can and not a glass. Thank...
