We had a hankering for breakfast while driving through Notre-dame-de-Grâce, so we put our faith in Google reviews and stopped by Orange Cafe. Although it was raining at the time, we still had to wait in a short line, so it appears as if Orange Cafe is a local favourite.
The restaurant has entirely booth seating. It has plenty of orange trim, and decor with a mellow vibe, which is nice considering how much constant hustle & bustle there is in the space. Although the place is busy, they've worked up a pretty efficient system, so you'll be seated pretty soon.
When in Montreal you are legally obligated to consume smoked meat of some sort, so I opted for their smoked salmon eggs Benedict dish; the Pacific. With this dish you'll get eggs Benedict, smoked Canadian Pacific salmon, and manouri cheese served on a toasted bagel. On the side you'll get a slice of cantaloupe and grapefruit, plus some home fries. The eggs Benedict portion of the dish was a stellar start. I've typically not cared for hollandaise sauce, but Orange Cafe serves you up a mild sauce with enough flavour that it isn't a waste of time & calories. Furthermore, it pairs excellently with the flavourful and salty smoked salmon. After you go and release that beautiful egg yolk, you've got a breakfast delight that will start any day right. To speak to the sides, the home fries are fantastically seasoned, but they lose points since they're not at all crispy. The slice of cantaloupe was pointlessly small.
All in all, Orange Cafe really hit the spot. It's hard to do breakfast food wrong, but they do it pretty damn well....
Read moreI tried orange café three times for brunches. It is usually crowded and the service is fair. The first two times were so good. I am on gluten free diet. They have gluten free toasts (almost extra 3$ charge) and I asked for sweet potatoes instead of the potatoes (also extra charge). The sweet potatoes were good and the whole dish was delicious. The 3rd time I went there, I ordered the same thing I had before with the gluten free toasts. I started eating and I had one whole toast, and all of a sudden the waitress came to tell me that I got the one with normal/gluten toasts and she apologized for this mistake. They brought me another plate but this time the pouched eggs were not well cooked. I got so bloated and with the uncooked pouched eggs , I felt like vomiting. The last experience was not pleasant for me at all. Thank God I am not celiac or allergic otherwise this mistake could harm me in a very bad way. They did not charge me (which is the least they can do). I was bloated and I felt heaviness the whole day coz of this mistake. I put 3 star to pay more attention to such things as this may cause real harm for people with strict dietary restrictions. Despite my last bad experience, they have good options and it is a good place to have a breakfast...
Read moreOh boy ! This is the first time I have ever written a negative complaint about a restaurant as I am well aware at how difficult it is to run a successful restaurant. None the less, my experience at Cafe orange in the NDG area of Montreal was horrifying. I began my visit being seated by a waitress _ who from the get go seemed to be in an extremely unpleasant mood. I'm After having been brought the menus and decided on my meal, I waited an excessive amount of time to place my order while the restaurant wasn't full. Yet when the time came for waitress _ to take my order I was told that in order to replace ham for spinach in my eggs it would cost me an additional 4$. When asking why the waitress blatantly told me that spinach is expensive! After having processes this despicable attitude and service I received my meal 25 min later to find that the eggs I ordered where boiled rather than poached, my potatoes where cold rather than hot, and the fruits where non existent. All this to say I certainly will not be returning to cafe orange and suggest to those who have yet to visit this establishment to...
