Discriminatory place. Don't believe other reviews as they come from people this place gives preferential treatment to at the expense of other people they discriminate against.
I went there to watch a World Series game. and made sure to order a lot to make my stay's pay worth the bar's time. While I was in the middle of watching TV and drinking beer, the waitress suddenly interrupts me and asks me, believe it or not, to put my plate on a tray she was carrying. She wanted me to do her job instead of picking up my plate herself. Honestly, my entire experience of enjoyment got ruined right there. The bar gets 0 stars just for that alone without me telling the rest of the story. Any bar/restaurant that demands their customers do any work at all immediately fails the customer service rating completely.
I had a feeling at the pit of my stomach this was intentional trolling. I can sense BS from miles away. Also, a few other restaurants in Montreal discriminated against me in the past, and after reviewing them online, some were closed down within a month, which confirmed they were illegitimate. I went to the supervisor and told him the story, expressing my sincere feelings that service felt like discrimination. He got defensive and claimed the behaviour was not discrimination. But, how could he know if he wasn't even there to see what happened?! He can't read the bartender's mind! A proper supervisor would have checked with the bartender first before speaking. His defence sounded like a lie. That right there again failed the place in customer service. I told the supervisor I wasn't born yesterday. I've been to many restaurants, and none ever asked me to do their work for them. Usually, the waitress picks up the plate herself. I told him I cannot tip the bar if it made me do work, unless the bartender apologizes, so he had her apologize. Things went well for the next 20 minutes as the supervisor started serving me directly. But, then something weird occurred. I had two beer pints on my table at one point, and after I finished one and started the other, the supervisor interrupted me while I was watching TV and asked me if I was done with the previous beer. But, the glass was 100% empty and I was drinking from the second glass already, which obviously indicates to any competent staff at any competent restaurant/bar that it was OK to take the first pint away (another service failure there). This did not feel like an innocent mistake. Something was off again. It felt like either incompetence or covert discrimination, which is bad either way. Later, I called the supervisor to clear the situation. I mentioned I felt trolled for being interrupted while enjoying the World Series to be asked about a drink that was already 100% empty; it felt like discrimination again. He got defensive as if I called his bluff, but then said sorry. I told him if he's sorry, then I forgive him. I went back to watching the TV. But then a minute later, the supervisor came and told me he didn't want my service and wanted me out. I told him: There it is! You just confirmed 100% beyond reasonable doubt you are discriminating against me. That is the definition of discrimination. You don't want me here even though I didn't do anything wrong and you did wrong by offering me discriminatory poor service. Any legitimate place that gave poor service would joyfully apologize and make it up to the customer.
I am sure if I take that supervisor to court over a discrimination charge, his tongue would slip and he'd mess up in court proving yet again he discriminated against me 100% like he did when he asked me to leave.
The government oughta crack down on bars/restaurants that discriminate, outlawing banning customers unless they started fights, stole, or harassed anyone (I did none) as otherwise, it's discrimination to ban.
I went to another bar, which was night and day from this bar. They treated me with the utmost respect, did no covert discrimination, and provided great service. I knew I was right all along and the previous bar supervisor was...
Read moreBeen to multiple ye orchard pubs and thoroughly enjoyed my visits. Second time Ive been to this location and although the first time was a good experience the second left both myself and my partner with a sour taste in our mouths, and we won't be returning. We grabbed some lattes from a café across the street and while walking past the pub we decided to pop in for a quick fish n chips, seeing another guest enjoying theirs on the patio. We spoke with a waitress, told us it was okay to sit on the patio and we promptly ordered food from her. The manager came out and let us know we cant have beverages from elsewhere on the patio and wanted to know what it was that we were drinking. We let him know of the situation; our impulse to grab a quick bite to eat from a well known establishment, and offered to leave given our chai lattes. He said it was okay but to know for next time it's not allowed. Our server came out shortly after and repeated the same message. The manager comes out a second time and asks us for a drink order, saying that he'll have no choice but to "kick us off his patio" if we're not buying anything alcoholic to drink. We explained to him that we're just here for food and that we've already ordered. He said we'll have to leave if we don't order so much as a coke, and he went back inside. We decided to leave given the altercation, with my partner going inside to let our waitress know we'd be leaving. The manager overheard this and said we didn't have to leave (all this after us being told twice to leave by him). My partner explained that we felt uncomfortable with the situation and the way we were spoken to. I applied to work here once, extremely grateful that I was never hired because Id be utterly embarrassed to work in an establishment where the managers speak to their patrons this way. As someone who has experience as both a waitress and manager I can honestly say the way we were spoken to was nothing short of rude and belittling. It happens often in the summer where patrons will come in with beverages from elsewhere as its human nature to want to quench your thirst. I've been in this situation many times where I've had to let someone know of our patio rules and have never not once spoken to a customer in the way we were spoken to. Perhaps if it was midnight and we were drunk and rowdy the curtness and rudeness would have been totally understandable, but to cause a scene in front of other patrons, and to speak to patrons who were looking to eat a meal at a restaurant in the way we were spoken to is just not acceptable behavior...
Read morealthough the Kilkenny beer on tap was $7.50, the lunch special was only $12.50. myself an old buddy got there before the noon hour and we had a choice of seating. Service was great our waitress was delightful and fast and the burger special was really really good. My buddy drank a water so he saved himself the $7.50. Plus he was driving so I did the drinking LOL. In fact I ordered the desert and got us to forex and we each had a coffee. The dessert was a cheesecake and it looked absolutely perfect however it was missing any flavour of cheesecake that we normally expect from that beautiful and perfect appearance. A bit disappointing but even the texture was perfect not just the look so it was actually surprising that it didn't have that wonderful traditional cheesecake odour and flavour you guys know what I'm talking about! It was devoid of that. 283 but like that third part called the flavour was probably more like 80% of what should be. overall because of the service and the cool place and the great music playing by the way not too loud either, and the wonderful service and everything looked good, I'd give it a four out of five. But I got to say that cheesecake having everything perfect except no flavour really threw me off. And by the way, my buddy I had lunch with had a very famous Montreal Italian restaurantfor over two decades and he's still an amazing chef so these opinions are shared with him.. The Old orchard is casual comfy friendly with good music decent lunch specials and an attractive but tasteless looking cheesecake. The coffee was all right and the...
