I recently visited Ramen Isshin in Montreal, and while our server was friendly and attentive, our overall experience was marred by the kitchen staff's handling of our concerns.
Initially, we were greeted by a server who was pleasant and accommodating. However, when the kitchen staff member came out to take our order, his demeanor was abrupt and unwelcoming. Our meal began with edamame that was overly salted, but we chose not to complain at that point.
When the ramen arrived, we quickly realized that it was also excessively salty, making it difficult to enjoy. We hesitated to mention it, but ultimately decided to inform our server, who was understanding and assured us she would communicate our feedback to the kitchen.
Unfortunately, the response from the kitchen staff was less than professional. The same individual returned, displaying a confrontational attitude, stating that we should have indicated our preference beforehand and that he wouldn’t modify the dish in the future. This left us confused, as it was our first visit, and we had no way of knowing the food's saltiness.
When the remade bowls arrived, we were disappointed to find that they were not full and seemed to be a reduced portion, presumably based on the assumption that we had consumed some of the original bowls. Additionally, the quality of the ramen did not improve, remaining mediocre at best.
In summary, while the service from our server was commendable, the kitchen's response to our feedback was unprofessional, detracting significantly from our dining experience. I hope they can address these issues, as the concept...
Read moreRamen Isshin is a cozy spot that’s worth a visit. While I don’t usually go out of my way for ramen, this place left a good impression. The location is very convenient, with plenty of parking options nearby, including free parking if you’re willing to loop around on the side streets. The restaurant itself isn’t very large, but the decor and ambiance make it feel warm and inviting.
When we visited, it was lineup-outside busy, yet the service was excellent. There was only one server handling everything when we arrived, and he did a fantastic job keeping up until another staff member joined mid-service. The kitchen was impressively fast in preparing meals, which made the wait feel shorter than expected.
The menu, while not extensive, covers all the staples you’d expect at a ramen spot. The portions were just right for the price, and everything arrived fresh and hot. The seasoning was a bit on the strong side for my personal taste, but that’s to be expected at a ramen restaurant.
Overall, Ramen Isshin is a solid choice for anyone craving good ramen in a comfortable setting. Even if it’s not your usual cuisine, it’s worth...
Read moreThe broth is fine, the noodles are fine, but the chashu was undercooked, the fat not rendered, which is a huge miss. The restaurant service is lackluster and the food takes more time to arrive than I would have liked. It seems they spend a lot of time doing online orders for delivery and the constant traffic of delivery people is a bit annoying. They have no menu, using qr code only, and for some reason they give it to us on a piece of receipt paper? They can't even put a sticker on the table or something? Then they have the gall to put 18% as the minimum tip on the machine. Come on guys, do you seriously want that 3% so bad you'll pressure people into it? Somehow only the restaurants with minimal service try to pull that one, go figure.
Overall not worth it for a sit down experience, as the ramen was subpar. Few toppings, bad chashu. Just go to sansotei next door, they'll actually...
