Victor/Eric should reconsider to learn how to offer basic restaurant hospitality when it comes to larger groups. There seems to be a lack of professionalism in the way he treats customers by the way they look.
We reserved as a group of 8 but ended up being a group of 12 (multi-cultural). At first it was a good service but once our friends came to join our table, we started to notice stares and judgmental grimaces from our waiter facial expressions. We were all in our 30’s and in the working class, some of us were tattoo artists, some were in the IT field and etc. Once our food came, our waiter never once even came to ask us if we wanted pepper, more bread, salt or anything at all.
No follow-ups at all, we had to flag him down every time. Maybe you can say they were busy but the restaurant wasn’t full.
In addition, we had 2 people who were allergic to dairy products and we asked if they could accommodate us. He said No.
At this point, we were already disappointed but we still gave him benefit of the doubt so we asked if the restaurant can do something special for our friend’s birthday. He also replied with No.
We have been to multiple restaurants in the past and “No”seems to be the first response that Victor had in mind from all of our conversations. (There were several ways to decline a request politely but his response were mainly cold Nos).
Overall, if you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion, I would recommend to celebrate elsewhere. I wanted to give our waiter some personal feedback in person but we were truly too disappointed to all the declines. Please learn how to create a great experience for your customers and more people will come back.
If you continue to lack professionalism in this industry, it might be best if you...
Read moreThis place is good, but I feel everything it has to offer is subpar when compared with its bigger sister, Quartier Général: location, neighborhood, food, service, and menu. Skip the mushroom entrée as it is basically just bread that tastes too much of propane, hummus, and mushrooms. Shortrib (boyfriend's order) was alright and had some more creativity; the tapinambourg chips and corn bread were delicious and went well with the pork. Also skip the terre et mer because there is really nothing special or unique about it; it's shoulder steak and three (3!) medium-large shrimp served next to ordinary boiled potatoes and 1 bok choy, like something I could have made at home. The steak is shoulder and I'm not sure whether it is cooked sous-vide, but it was missing caramelization, that is for sure. The dessert was the best part; highly recommend the donut because the ice cream it's served with is to-die-for. The chocolate mousse was underwhelming and even sort of heavy. Coffee is good and of an appropriate quality.
Service was passable, but slow, and they don't go out of their way for you like at Quartier Général. I should have been offered a bucket for my wine, and we waited perhaps 7-8 minutes too long to order. Time between entrée and plat principal was also longer than it should have been. They were good on keeping water full but should be better at managing the harder customer service tasks given the restaurant's...
Read moreIt's gotten to the point that I'm looking for small details or just about anything to complain about at Etat-major but I can't. Yes I wish the portions were bigger but who doesn't wish that, everything is so good, and who decided dessert sould be eaten at the end. I would start my meal with that crazy caramel donut yum 😋 mind you that semifreddo tonight was delightful. So lets recap, the prices a la carte are good or if you choose the four course meal for an additional 15$ now that's spot on. This restaurant's a bring your own wine which is great because you'll be able to experience a great win with your great meal, so don't be a cheapskate and make sure you invest in a better than average bottle of wine. This simple action will elevate your eating experience and you will really enjoy your meal. Finish your meal with a ball of vanilla ice cream on top of a warm fresh out of the deep frier caramel covered donut sprinkled with a few grains of salt and you're going to feel so guilty but that's just a temporaire feeling (If nobody was watching and judging me, I would eat two donuts and wouldn't feel guilty) I gave a 4 star review because I've had better at Etat-major. I don't want one of my favourite places to rest on their laurels, to be satisfied with their achievements and not make an effort to do anything else: Just because you've gotten this good doesn't mean...
