We first heard about Bungalow on Mount Royal thanks to the TV show Coup de Food. Clearly, we weren’t the only ones — the place was packed! Even so, we were seated almost immediately at a nice table in the center of the restaurant, right in the heart of the action. The staff mentioned that the owners were pleasantly surprised by the surge in clientele following the show’s broadcast.
The cuisine is described as inventive, and it truly is. While the summer terrace brings a few more “traditional” menu items (fried calamari, various tartares), we chose the more adventurous side of the menu and were very glad we did.
We started with the octopus appetizer, served over crispy smashed fingerling potatoes with a spiced butter and yuzu sour cream sauce — absolutely amazing. For mains, my wife enjoyed the duck magret, paired beautifully with braised Brussels sprouts, pepper sauce, and cauliflower purée, while I had the dorade royale (Mediterranean sea bream), served with a creamy mushroom and leek risotto in a white wine cream with basil. Both dishes were perfectly executed.
The wines were equally enjoyable: we began with a sparkling Cava, then moved on to a crisp Chablis 2022, Séguinot-Bordet for my wife and a robust Morgon La Chanaise 2023 for me. We ended on a high note, sharing a mousse au chocolat with hazelnut praline that was as indulgent as it was memorable.
The restaurant was lively (yes, a bit noisy), but the food, service, and atmosphere more than made up for it. Overall, an amazing dining experience — inventive cuisine, warm service, and a...
Read moreI was disappointed and embarrassed with this place. I've been here twice. The first time I came I was wowed, the food was excellent, the service was great and it was overall, an awesome experience. Recently friends from out of town came to visit and I couldn't shut up about how great this place was.. to say the least I was extremely disappointed. First no-one came to sit us, the waiter seemed unfriendly this time around, not even a smile. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, I would say it was 1/3rd full..however we barely got any service. The staff seemed much more interested in talking to a couple of bros who were by the bar than us. The food while not bad.. was not as good as the first time I came, I had the pork chop and it was overall pretty bland, the appetizer was much more tasty. When the bill arrived, something I absolutely did not mind paying the first time, now seemed very expensive. In the end this place let me down and my friends couldn't believe how much hype I had given this restaurant. Unfortunately I won't be coming back, I wanted this to be my new...
Read moreWOW. This place absolutely amazed me. No exaggeration when I say this is on my Top 3 Restaurant Experiences in Montreal so far. Perfectly well-rounded experience - from the atmosphere, service to the food, no points were missed by Bungalow. The atmosphere felt a bit more like a bar than a restaurant but the hip effect worked either way. Some neat décor is used. Our server, Guilliame, was an absolute gem. Polite, professional and full of personality. I ordered the rotating pasta, it was a parpadelle with pesto, braised lamb and something else I forgot...but it was amazing! Had plenty of pasta in my life but never one quite like this. The best way I can describe the overall cuisine would be "Pan-European" - seems to centralize around Italian & French, with touches of Spanish and other international flavours. If you want to learn the definition of "Eclectic" when it comes to dining - come here. I could not stop talking about this place for a week after eating here. This was a truly...
