Trattoria Gallo Nero — Restaurant in Montreal

The food lately at Gallo Nero is of gastronomical excellence, yet keeping to its true authentic home style cuisine. It's simple high quality dishes are absolutely exquisite, I had the guanciale the other day and they were made to perfection, literally melted in your mouth and the braised meat wine sauce was the perfect combination to lap up the perfect morsels of caramelized meat, absolutely a divine dish. I hate to ramble on but the braciole are a must try, as well. The perfectly wrapped pieces of thinly cut veal scallopinis filled with an italian, garlic, parsley, parmiggiano bread crumb meat filling mixture were so perfectly blanketed by one of the best tomato sauces I have ever tried and I am very picky when it comes to tomato sugos. I keep bugging John, the owner, for the secret behind this delicious sauce that is so well balanced and not acidic as most tomato sauces I have tried in restaurants. Guess what, he won't tell me, he says it's an old Baffone Ristorante recipe that will stay in the family forever! I guess it is locked up in some safe along with the Coca Cola recipe lol!! We just celebrated my great friend's Lina's 60th birthday. From the moment we entered, throughout the night and until we left, everyone was so kind, courteous, patient and always smiling. We had such a nice and extremely friendly waiter (forgot his name; he lives in Val des Brises and wore a baby blue shirt). THANK YOU for all your time, efforts and courteous service. As well as your recommendations; everything was out of this world delicious (looking forward to going back). Everyone was on the go and didn't stop (unbelievable). God Bless You All and Thank You.

Food-We ate like we were at an Italian wedding!!! Each and every plate was super duper delicious!!

They also cater too.....try the veal with potatoes and vegetables....OMG, You will not be able to stop!!! Their stuffed chicken breast is also amazing. Hats off to all kitchen staff. We will definitely order in advance/home catering!!

I'll start with the pros. Good food, polite and friendly staff, and the single person washrooms are clean with modern touchless soap and paper dispensers. There's live music but with a catch. Which brings me to my cons. The live music is incredibly loud. You're not gonna be able to have a casual conversation here without having to yell. But if you're a lively person and live for that, you may not mind. The service, albeit professional and courteous, was quite slow. But they were a full house when we went. And even at that, the food didn't seem to suffer. We'd be more than happy to come back and try something new on the menu. Prices for pasta are...
