Where to begin...It is the worst Greek food I have ever had in a restaurant in my life, anywhere in the world. Food courts are better than this...first off, one of the appetizers ordered was Dolmades...which upon first bite were obviouisly from a can...I told the waiter this, to his credit he admitted that It was, but then lied and told me that he always tells people up front that the Dolmades are from a can..because in his words " we used to do them fresh, but its too much work so they order high end cans" well..he did not tell me up front, and i can buy my own cans of food in most decent shops in Montreal. Why go to a restaurant and order a dish that comes from a can...My arrogant Austrian German waiter did not seem to understand this...Then the Saganaki, was hard and tasteless, after the same waiter made a great show of lighting it on fire in front of the restaurant, l..which is not how the dish is supposed to be done...it must cook a bit in the Ouzo..but anyway...then the main dish, Gyro was good, but the Calamari was frozen and quite obviously a bit off. and the roasted potatoes were tasteless, and one of them was musty tasting , dry and powdery and clearly from the previous night's service...I returned the plate and the same arrogant waiter told me that he did not agree with me and that no one had ever complained about the Calamari in 16 years...to which I basically laughed in his face especially when he informed me that he had personally cut up the fresh Calamari himself...of course he did. the item was removed from the bill, to be fair, he also removed the canned Dolmades without being asked to,which is why I gave the service any stars at all...also the bill when given only offers a minimum of 18% tip, which this waiter clearly did not deserve...I tipped him anyway out of pity. You see my little Austrian friend, the person you lied to and treated with arrogance is a chef...that's right , I know better than you about food quality. And you should be embarassed to be serving this. Avoid this restaurant , you are better off cooking yourself or buying a few Cans as they apparently do then you can enjoy the Yiasou dining experience without dishng out your hard earned money. I am rarely as outraged by a dinning experience as I am today. You have been warned....RESPONSE TO OWNER. MANAGER, BLAH BLAH BLAH... to the owner or whoever you are, I don't need to waste my time looking to speak to some manager of a 3 rd rate restaurant like yours. I don't care what your waiters name was,HE COULD NOT CARE LESS ABOUT WHAT HE WAS PUTTING ON THE FLOOR AND WAS ARROGANT ABOUT IT... and he still got afull tip even though the food was partially inedible...If you say that your Dolmades are homemade, then you are simply lying...you can tatse the metallic taste that comes from canned food, they were canned and your waiter even said so...your calamari is frozen, and it tasted off...your potatoes were not made that day, at least one of them...it was inedible, so don't come back here and spew this dribble. You may have been good at one point, but once you start serving food out of a can, its time to rethink your position in the culinary circles...speaking of which, there is a huge Greek comunity in Montreal, and to say that your Calamari is the best in the city, is not only an insult to my intelligence , but you are laughing at the entire comunity. Your food is lousy..same chef?...maybe its time for him to move on. And no, your saganaki was not prepared properly at all...I rarely leave reviews because restaurants have it hard, but in your case I could not let it pass...It was literally the worst Greek food I have ever eaten. and your head waiter who is still the Austrian german, there is nothing wrong with that, he was proud of it, did not seem to be bothered at all by the digusting stuff he was allowing on the floor. To you and to him...a word of advice, don't lie to your customers, the truth comes out. Yet I am vulgar and distateful...you serve frozen Calamari and other foods that come from a can...you are a disgrace...
Read moreYia Sou Greek Grill How does survived in this location where are many restaurants 1 after the other have failed! So they must be doing something right. With a good choice of menu possibilities, one will be pleased with all the choices. The service is excellent and the restaurant itself as well appointed. It's actually a very large place and it's quite attractive. From boosts two tables to Fronteras in the summer there's many ways to enjoy this restaurant. The food is consistent although not gourmet, it is certainly good and everything is possible and some of it is great! The plates that we had who ain't nobody called to do lunch please us both. I went for the lamb and he went for the chicken. I found the lamp to be excellent. Lamonda skewer and he had the chicken on this key work with a full plate including salad potatoes rice etc. We both chose the soft drink and the bill was under $20. With the level of service we received although it wasn't too busy that day because you couldn't even walk on the sidewalk due to snow, we were both pleased with food and service and the nice booth where we were seated. The cellar that served us has been there for a number of years and he knows his stuff and he make sure you're taken care of quickly. That is very much appreciated especially when I meet there for a business lunch marketing by financial institutions for me as an independent broker to use their services. In fact, about eight years ago I threw a big birthday party for myself was everybody on their own ticket and there were about 30 people and they were going to arrange the tables in rows, for this Sunday night celebration. I asked him to do it in a you shape and we came up with closer to bent out of shape with an opening and we were able to seat everybody on both sides alternating and it was a great way to have communications and contacts with almost everybody left right front back etc. The restaurant was most accommodating. Although for 30 people and they knew it they might have brought in another waiter, but the evening. Went off very well and the service was sufficient much to everybody surprise. The food has never been disappointing but it is never being the Ritz-Carlton. It's a very good and consistent quality that's always fresh enough and grills on the spot, it seems to me. Having lasted over eight years at this location and clearly longer, they must be doing something right in order to pay the steep rent that they are charged. All other previous restaurants looks like they opened up for a last time just to post a bankruptcy notice 6 months later and who knows what they were up to but that went on for years with many different restaurants. So we were surprised , everybody was, when this restaurant was here to stay, year after year Good food that is consistently qualitative, with good service, and the choice of seating within quite a nice environment. It's pleasant and it's tasty and it's reasonably priced and it's a place that you can count on. I hope there will be there for many years to come because we need a place like this on the streets that has so many turnovers of restaurants and stores. Located west of Décarie, about one and a half blocks down the streets of Queen Mary Road, it's a great location for a little then you have a bit of everything from coffee shops to fruit stores to dry cleaner to flowershops to several Banks, clothing stores and more. Yia Sou Greek Grill is now an important part of the community, and in fact, it is my...
Read moreI'm not even sure where to start with this one. The experience started with a nice waitress explaining how this place serves authentic Greek food and altogether being cheery and engaged (the only star they get is for her) once the food arrived I was shocked to see more plate than food. There was a handful of partially cooked rice one souvlaki stick and some dry fries with a blob of tzaziki sauce taking up a quarter of the plate. I'm not sure how the kitchen staff wasnt ashamed to let that leave. My friends plate was no better although slightly bigger due to ordering a pita. A single burger from McDonald's would have been more food. The rice was uncooked and bland the fries were dry and unsalted and the 5 little pieces of chicken on a stick were mediocre at best. Unless Greece is going through a famine I wouldn't call this authentic by any stretch. They had no manager to speak to and proceeded to give improper change after overcharging for this sad excuse of a meal. Honestly 1 star was too many. First and last time I go and I would stay away if I were you... update a couple hours later we both got sick from the chicken. The plate I enjoyed? Train your new kitchen staff better and I would've had something worth eating. And yes I post reviews when I have a negative experience and you like your staff don't even apologize so I think your response should also be taken either a grain of salt. But hey you clearly think you are the best. Typical ego and poor ownership is shown in your response and you have a small portion complaint so...
