I Really Wanted To Love This Place But...
In town for one day. Couldn't decide between Rosie's and Deja Vu. Read a lot of positive reviews for both online and went with Deja Vu. It simply did not live to the many positive online reviews.
Food
Chicken Tender Dinner
Tenders
Cannot be held without the bread coming off the chicken and crumbling
The default seasoning blend in the breading should be delicious in and of itself to appeal to those who like both dipping their tenders in sauce and having some bites without
The actual chicken appeared to be white meat, so, five stars for that; unfortunately, like others have already said, they were greasy in that once you took one from the basket, a pool of oil beneath the tenders was evident
At first glance the number of sauces sound so appealing, in reality, all is not what it seems; for example, topping a sauce with a sprinkle of a particular spice or some coconut sprinkles is not original or combining two sauces together like ranch and buffalo
Fries
Skin on Not salted to my liking They arrived at the table warm, not hot Nothing remarkable about them
Coleslaw
Average, mayo based, unremarkable
Milkshake
A huge disappointment Had the peach milkshake that seemingly didn't have any peach Could not detect any peach pieces by taste or appearance The peach flavour tasted simulated, I suspect maybe a peach flavoured syrup was used
Service
Wait time to be seated was reasonable, around 8 to 10 minutes Order was taken quickly, food arrived quickly as well Servers were attentive, polite, responsive
Atmosphere
Diner-esque Booths and tables No standout features
In conclusion, I would not return to Deja Vu. It did not live up to expectations. It's unfortunate because the potential is there to elevate many of these otherwise ubiquitous menu items so that they're unique, one-of-a-kind, must-haves that could compel visitors to dine at Deja Vu AND...

Read moreIf unbeatable variety is what you’re chasing, Deja Vu is the place for you. They have an absolutely unbelievable number of milkshake flavors and chicken wing sauces - you’ll likely never run out of new combinations to try. The chicken strips and wings are generously sized, crispy, and clearly handmade which adds to the appeal. Some sauce and milkshake flavors land much better than others, but with such a massive selection, that’s completely expected. The key is that there is something here for everyone.
The atmosphere is classic and charming, a true cafe aesthetic that feels casual and welcoming. The food comes out quick enough, nice and hot, and delivers on the quality that you’d expect. The onion rings, fried mushrooms, and mozzarella sticks also deserve a mention - all were fried perfectly and packed with deliciousness.
Texas Ranch and Hickory Dilly Dock stood out as our favorite wing sauces.
That said, the service was the only real downside. Staff weren’t very attentive, and asking for recommendations felt like an inconvenience to them rather than something they welcomed. It gave the impression that they didn’t particularly want to be there. Still, while the young staff didn’t add to the experience, they didn’t ruin it either. At the end of the day, I came for great fried chicken and fresh milkshakes, and on that front, Deja Vu delivered.
It’s easy to see why this spot has earned such a solid reputation - it’s a must-visit when in Moose Jaw if you want seriously good fried food and endless flavor...
