My girlfriend and I were both had the flu and had no energy to cook so we decided to try out Nanay Mo’s. Right now, you can find them in the back entrance behind the Nanaimo Bakery on the corner of Bowen and Meredith. They said they will be taking over the Nanaimo Bakery space after some renovations. We ordered the pork rib sinigang, the crispy pata, and the fried lumpia.
Their lumpia was perfect. Malaman. Hindi maalat, not too fried, or too dry. Good with or without the sauce. They were also good portion sizes.
If you want crispy pata without all the work, it’s perfectly decent but nothing mind blowing. The sauce with it is good and good portions for $35.
Like all Filipinos we have had a lot of sinigang in life so it’s hard to impress us, but we thought their sinigang was legit. Lots of gulay, great broth, but I think needs more meat for the price. Again, great choice if you have a craving for sinigang, but don’t have the time or ingredients handy.
Overall we think it’s a really good restaurant and we will be returning often. I would say the food is catering level good. We are so glad to see that Nanaimo now has a Filipino restaurant and even more glad that it’s legit masarap. We hope to support them for a long time. Can’t wait for the dining...
Read moreI called in my order and had it picked up by my son. My questions were answered and I definitely enjoyed the dinner. I received a mix of canton and rice noodles for the pancet bichon. Take away. This is a new restaurant that is trying to maintain their costs, but still put out plates that are amazing in their portion size.
So why the 4 instead of the 5 star - the texture of some of the meat was weird. Might just me, but wasn’t a fan. Some was good, but not all. The noodles and rest were great. A lot of vegetables, which is most important to me anyway - the meat I could take or leave. Will I be back - most definitely - do I suggest to others yes! Do I wish they had a veggie option - yes! Good flavour throughout, a lot of veggies - noodles were great and great people...
Read moreIt’s our first time ordering from this place today and I just had to come and write a review because it was so good! We ordered the lechon kawali and sinigang na baka (extra sour). I’m Filipino and this meal hit all the cravings! My Polish husband enjoyed everything as well.
This place is run by an adorable Filipino family and you can tell that the cook puts a lot of love in his food. However, the real star of the show is the adorable host (one of the kids) who was managing front of the house operations. :)
I am very excited to have a Filipino option for food around here and so glad they’ve joined the community!
Unfortunately we dove right into the food before getting a chance to grab some photos. I hope to remember to do this...
