The Wellington Hotel Pub — Restaurant in Nanaimo

Waitress made it very clear we weren't welcome.

I'm not sure if it's because we were new or because we're under 60, or maybe we didn't know the secret handshake, but whatever the reason she didn't want to serve us or make eye contact, or bring us cutlery, or food, or beer or the bill. Which made it even weirder that she decided to push for us to order food even though there was some kind of free buffet that night that we could have had instead and she wouldn't have had to interact with us at all except for the beers. I was wondering why nobody else in the place had ordered food until they opened that up. Would have been nice to know about before ordering!

Bottom line: if you've been coming for years, it looks like you're treated well. If you're new in town, don't bother. People are much nicer over at the Original Joes two blocks away; at least there they don't treat you like you're intruding on a private party you...

The taco salad was okay, but hard to eat. The fried tortilla tasted like fish and was extremely crispy and crumbled everywhere, and there were lots of olives... Also I wasn't sure if I offended the waiter when I told her my age as I was looking for my ID, as she seemed really agitated and was pretty rude about it. I don't get carded much and she said I wasn't supposed to be in here at all if I was underage, understandable, but at least give me the benefit of the doubt instead of being so rude and making a scene. If I was underage there are plenty of other restaurants I'd be going to instead because I was having lunch with my partner and his parents, as if we'd go to a pub for lunch if I was 10 years younger than I am. 🤷🏻‍♀️

karaoke is so much fun!! thai is a great host, and so is flo. 🤩 a great selection of craft beers & good drink specials! tonight was vodka highballs for $3.85 i think, doesn’t get more affordable than that in this town. it’s a chill karaoke environment (unlike corner lounge etc), slow songs & good talent, it’s a good show most nights. and thai has the voice of an angel!!! if you’re lucky, she’ll sing good girl by carrie underwood! its mind blowing. and erin, our server, is incredible at her job, very funny & kind, & also has a lovely voice. it’s a great place to go on a fri/sat if you’re not really in to the downtown nanaimo club scene, but you still want a place to go out with...
