Disclaimer…I can’t actually comment on the food as I refused to accept it when it arrived.
After moving out of our house with all our worldly possessions in tow, the axel broke in our small trailer and we were forced to stay in Oromocto for the night. As it was my spouse’s birthday, I booked the nicest room at the Oromocto Days Inn for a romantic evening together. Well, as romantic as it could be given the stressful day we had.
As we were exhausted, rather than go out to supper, we decided to order in and having been a fan of Jungle Jim’s since the first store opened in St. John’s NL over 30 years ago, we thought we would try the Jungle, Oromocto style.
My spouse, being from the Mediterranean, immediately went for the fish platter (I don’t recall the actual name). Given it was her birthday and the day had had, she was looking forward to the meal.
Upon calling and placing the order, we were told a time as to when we should receive it. So we sat back and opened a wonderful red wine that I had received as a retirement gift while we waited. About the time we should have received our order, we received a call from the restaurant informing us they actually had no shrimp nor scallops. I’m not sure why they didn’t know this when they took the order but whatever, we were very hungry by this time and told them to continue with our meal.
Without shrimp and scallops, all she was left with was fish and chips. Also, it was clear they hadn’t even started our order. So, she changed the order to a steak dinner cooked rare. It was a bit risky ordering a steak for take out but it was her birthday and the restaurant assured us it would be ready pronto!
After nearly finishing the bottle of wine, we called the restaurant back to see where our order was. They said it had been out for deliver for some time and we should receive it shortly.
After another half hour, we called them back to see where the order was. While we were speaking to the restaurant, we received a knock on the door and upon opening was met with guy with reflector glasses pulling crumpled receipts out of his pocket and picking them up off the floor. He was unapologetic for being late claiming he had lots of orders.
By this time we had the manager of Jungle Jim’s on the phone. She was telling us that it was not their problem but that of the delivery agent. Duh!!! Who contracted the delivery agent to deliver their food? Not us!
It was clear my wife’s rare steak for her birthday supper would be completely cold. So we sent the delivery guy packing and I was not so pleasant with my words to the Jungle Jim’s manager after listening to her insane arguments that it was my problem not hers. After reheating some leftover subs from Tim Hortons at lunch time and a bag of Cheetos, we had a wonderful birthday supper thanks to Jungle Jim’s Oromocto.
Jim… you might was to get yourself a better deliver service in Oromocto and get your staff some training in how to run a restaurant and provide customer...
Read moreLet me take you on a journey through a really bad sit-down experience as I write this from my bathroom 2 mins away from the Jungle Jims we just frequented for supper... It started with hope. After trying another restaurant and witnessesing a remarkably long waiting line, we decided to get fast food on the way home, and spotted Jungle Jim's instead. Why not? Thought we. It was a smaller, more intimate restaurant, and wasn't overly busy. Great! Thought we. After waiting to be seated, waiting for our drinks, and waiting more than 40mins for food, we hadn't even been asked if we wanted a top up of our drinks, which we had both finished. The food finally came; great! Thought we. The plates were hot, and it looked good. Unfortunately the plates were hotter than the food served on them. Both of our dishes were cold. For reference, he had nachos and taquitos with chicken wings, and I had the chicken Alfredo with a side of Caesar salad, and a piece of garlic bread. The so-called "deep-fried" taquitos were very obviously not deep-fried, and the garlic toast was burnt on one side, and was still plain bread on the other (..how is that even possible?) Soggy nachos, and a very watery Caesar salad dressing and Alfredo sauce awaited, and the only reason we ate most of it was because at that point we were starving. Heading up to pay, our bill came to more than $52, for one cold main each, a beer for him, and an iced tea for me. I'm not a person who likes conflict, so I politely asked if there was anyway we could get a discount and I explained the reasons why. She was generous and apologized, but at $40 we both left feeling like we had paid too much. The only reason this Jungle Jims got a star at all was because the waitress said they were short staffed for the night, and at one point she did stop by to tell us that our food was cooking and on its way. As it stands, I dont believe either of us will be going back there anytime soon... Especially since my sudden bathroom trip is the result of the food we...
Read moreParty of 3, arrived and was informed that there were no empty tables or booths but that we would be first in the waitlist (advised 20-30 minutes). Host wrote my name & number on the back of a placemat and told me that she would call when a table was cleared. Party of 11 behind us (with no reservation) was offered and seated in the patio! We were not given this option or else we would have jumped on it! Waited 30 minutes in the parking lot - seen several people/groups come out and we weren't called even though waitress/hostess said we were first on the waitlist. We went and did some grocery shopping across at Sobeys. An hour later and still no call back so I called and inquired about a table and why we weren't called. Whoever answered the phone gave me an excuse that they were still packed, I advised them that I seen several groups leave while we waited in the parking lot, she then said "oh I think we did try to call but no one answered" to which I said I had my phone in my hand and no one called. She then said that my party must have been to big - a group of 3! She then said she would try to squeeze me in but I declined as I was tired of excuses and her lying about the situation and why I wasn't called for a table. I explained that perhaps they should have a better system for waitlist, instead of the back of a placemat that probably was tossed (whether by accident or on purpose) and her response was "noted, thanks, bye" and she disconnected the call. Had she admitted that it was lost or misplaced, it would have been fine, but to lie about it and give me attitude it was disrespectful. Never have I been treated or spoke this way and I will...
