Came here to celebrate my 36th birthday at approx 8pm on July 29th and really am very upset at the service we received..
When we first arrived, there was a middle-eastern man that seated us. When we said we would prefer outside, he seemed very annoyed, but obliged. He then brought us outside and I asked if we could sit on the patio on the newer side because I enjoy that side a bit more.. Our host then said "no, it's closed." In a rude manner. We were then sat on the older side of the patio because we were forced to.
We were sat at 8pm and didnt get seen for 30 minutes. We were ready to just walk out, until my fiancé flagged down a server and told the server we hadn't been approached at all in 30 minutes. This server had already been in and out MULTIPLE times attending other tables outside. We even moved tables closer to where others were sat just to even get seen, and still the server didn't ask us if we had even been attended to yet.
After my fiancé flagged this server over, she told us she didnt approach us because she thought another server was tending to us. Which would have been understandable, if it was 10 minutes or so.. but we even moved tables to sit closer to the 2 she was already tending to.. yet we still weren't approached to even be asked if we had been seen.
We just wanted to move on with the night, so she then took our orders and everything came out at a good pace.. She also told us that she told the kitchen to "put a rush" on our food.. Which also kind of made us nervous, as I'd prefer quality rather than my food "rushed".
The coconut shrimp was amazing as always.. However, when our main courses came, my fiancés was great, but mine wasn't the best. I ordered the Beef with the yorkshire pudding (with extra yorkshire pudding) and my fiancé ordered the half-chicken dinner. Now, we have been here before and I ordered the beef dinner before. Last time my beef dinner was AMAZING (another reason we chose the Eager Beaver for my birthday aside from the patio)..
My fiancé loved her dinner but mine was just.. okay. Some of the beef tasted a bit.. off? Kinda like cleaner? That's the only way I can describe it.. I also ordered extra yorkshire pudding. One of them tasted great, and the other tasted very.. old? Had a very stale flavour to it.. my fiancé is a small eater so she didn't finish her dinner, but I just wasn't fully impressed with mine.
Now, during our time we were there we also asked if we could have the patio heater on.. Our server tried and then said she had to go get her manager to help.. They came back out and it seemed they were trying.. However, after a few minutes they all went back inside and we weren't updated whatsoever.. No one notified us if they had issues or anything or if they could turn it on whatsoever.. So we sat there waiting as it got a bit more chilly as the sun went down and it made for a very unpleasant experience..
We deemed it pretty clear based off the hosts reaction to us sitting outside initially.. and the lack of service that they didn't like us sitting outside.. so we called it an early night at about 9:30pm and it really ruined my birthday.
Our server Chyna (or China) was very sweet and knew my fiancé from a previous visit with her grandma for lunch.. Which is why we still tipped her 18%.. However, the service was terrible for the most part and my food wasn't the greatest.
We first thought to ask for a manager when leaving, however, after seeing the manager when she came out for the patio heaters earlier and everyone seemed annoyed, and how we were just left in the dark about the heaters.. We ultimately didn't want to speak to the current staff for that evening. Including management.
And finally as we left, our server left our bill and machine for our bill but then dissappeared for a while.. I wasn't in a good mood and wanted to go, so we just took the machine and our payment into the bar and gave it to the bartender.
We then asked if we could use the phone to call a cab and we left with a very bad taste in our mouth.
All in all, I feel as if we...
Read moreI am Shawn's fiancé that left the recent review. This is in response to "Kaylauni Factor" which was our server China.
We did not state we were sat in the upper area. Our host rudely told us we could not sit there because it was "closed" when we asked to be seated there and he seemed very annoyed that we even asked to be seated outside in general. We were sat by the outdoor bar on the old side of the patio.. If you look to the right when you exit the side door to the patio, we were sat off to the right toward the fence beside the outdoor bar. We saw China multiple times coming in and out of the restaurant and she even looked at us a few times.. we then moved closer to the tables of people being seen and still weren't attended to for another 15 minutes until I flagged her over.. She even told us that she saw us, but thought we were tended to by another server when we said we hadn't been tended to in nearly 30 minutes since we were sat.
She also asked how the meal was when we were first given the meal, i.e. after a few small bites. It seemed very good and both looked delicious at the time. We only got to take a few bites. My chicken meal was great as Shawn stated and so was the coconut shrimp. Although, his meal wasn't the best after eating more. Most of his meal was very good, however his extra yorkshire pudding seemed very stale (not both of them) and some of the beef tasted as if there was a hint of "cleaner" on it. That was the only way he could describe it. We didn't say we were happy with everything, we said "we were good".. This isn't about us attacking the food either, as we chose Eager Beaver for his Birthday BECAUSE the roast beef dinner was amazing last time he had it and he craved it for his birthday dinner. The food is usually amazing.
Shawns review was less about the food, but more towards the overall service. As Shawn stated, after how the whole night went, we didn't want to really talk to, or complain to any of the staff on hand, or management as it was his birthday and we simply didn't feel welcome on the patio, as it rained earlier in the day and was a cooler evening. We felt like a burden after our host's first reaction, waiting 30 minutes for service (and only got it because I flagged a server down) and then how the night went with the staff/management coming out for the heaters and then just randomly leaving us without heat with no explaination.. We ultimately just wanted to move on.. but we felt bummed out. I was the one who urged Shawn to even write the review. When we got home he just wanted to go to bed after what we experienced and that bothered me.
As Shawn stated, China was very sweet and was more attentive after we brought up the service issue.. She also brought out a cheese cake with a candle for his birthday.. but the service in general was very poor and when we say service, we mean far more then just the server.
Ultimately we just felt like a burden for wanting to sit outside on a...
Read moreMy mother and I came here for dinner on a Friday night and it didn't seem to be very busy at the time. We were seated on the patio (as requested) and our server came out almost right away to take our drink order. We both had water to start while we discussed potential drink options. At the same time we ordered 1lb of wings as an appetizer. The wings tasted great but she took away our plate, with the vegetables on still on it, without even asking if we were finished. At that point we were ready to order, but she came and went so fast we didn't even have a chance to order. Approximately 20 minutes later our server finally came back to our table and I ordered a drink and the Nashville chicken. Instead of fries, I asked for a house salad. My mother ordered the fish and chips. Our server left and came back to our table after about 3 minutes saying that they don't know if the restaurant could substitute fries for a salad. I have never heard this before so I asked our server if they could please check again. Our server came back about 3 minutes later and said that they wouldn't be able to substitute because there is no button for it on the screen and that the dish comes that way. I should also mention at this point, our server did not bring out the drink I ordered. We waited another 10-15 minutes before our server brought me my drink. The food came shortly after and tasted okay, but I was definitely put off by the quality of service and the lack of accommodations for dietary restrictions from the restaurant. Needless to say, I will unfortunately not be...
