Nestled in a bustling area where finding a good meal often comes with the additional challenge of paid parking, Swagat stands out as a hidden gem for anyone craving authentic Indian cuisine without the extra hassle. My recent visit to this delightful eatery was nothing short of extraordinary, leaving me thoroughly impressed from start to finish.
The experience began with a pleasant surprise: free parking. Given the location, where nearly every other establishment charges for parking, this was a welcome relief. It set the tone for what would be a memorable dining experience.
As I stepped inside, the warm ambiance immediately put me at ease. The decor, with its subtle nods to Indian culture, created a cozy yet vibrant atmosphere that was perfect for both casual meals and special occasions. The staff were welcoming and attentive, making sure we were comfortable and well taken care of throughout our visit.
We started our meal with the samosas, and they were simply divine. Crisp on the outside and filled with a perfectly spiced potato mixture, they were a fantastic introduction to what Swagat had to offer. Each bite was a delightful blend of flavors, with just the right amount of heat.
For the main course, we opted for Jeera Rice and Dal Fry. The Jeera Rice was beautifully cooked, with each grain perfectly separated and infused with the earthy aroma of cumin. It paired wonderfully with the Dal Fry, which was a standout dish in its own right. The lentils were cooked to perfection, creamy and rich, with a depth of flavor that spoke of slow-cooking and a careful balance of spices. The garlic and cumin tempering added a delightful burst of flavor, making this simple dish one of the highlights of the meal.
And then, there was the tea. A meal at an Indian restaurant wouldn’t be complete without a good cup of chai, and Swagat did not disappoint. The tea was aromatic, perfectly brewed, and had just the right balance of sweetness and spice. It was the perfect end to a delicious meal.
In conclusion, Swagat exceeded all my expectations. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the free parking was an added bonus that made the entire experience even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for a place that offers authentic Indian flavors in a welcoming setting, Swagat is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be returning to sample more...

Read moreI went there for Easter evening dinner with my friends visiting from the Netherlands. I was really hoping for a warm atmosphere, but unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing due to poor management and service.
From the moment we arrived, there was no greeting- no hello, no eye contact, not even a smile from the waitress. It honestly felt like the staff didn’t want to be there or didn’t care about welcoming guests. A few other customers were also waiting to be seated, and no one from the staff , neither the waitress nor the manager, acknowledged them or asked them to wait politely.
The music was so loud it was hard to enjoy our meal or have a proper conversation. It really took away from the experience.
I’m writing this with a heavy heart because I truly believe that we, as Indians in Canada, have a responsibility to represent our culture with warmth and hospitality or at the very least, with basic courtesy.
On a positive note, the food was excellent. I’ve enjoyed it before and still believe it’s worth appreciating. But sadly, the poor service makes it uncomfortable to bring guests or recommend the place to others.
I’m someone who strongly believes in tipping and was ready to tip well, but the service was far below even basic standards.
I sincerely hope the management reads this and takes steps to improve the...
