The North Glengarry — Restaurant in North Glengarry

This has been a staple of our home like so many locals, even before the « newer » owners. We’ve celebrate many an event, children’s graduations, Christmas concerts, etc if we order pizza in our area it’s usually from them. American style pizza. Not artisan. 30$/pie, large on average. Their poutine IS GREY HORRENDOUS sauce, all of the poutine lovers I know stay away from it. Gaetan’s food truck across is the best anyway.

The food is good, generous in quantity, priced for the style and area 20$/ person (lunch )gets you a nice burger, fries, coleslaw. Service is usually ok, sometimes great , sometimes not as good. But nothing like today. My issue is that I went for lunch today, with s friend who had never been. We purposefully waited until 1:45. It was busy going in but most were served and eating or even finishing up. The hostess was terrible. No welcome, no nothing . We had menus appear on the table . I don’t even know who put them down. By the time i looked up , the waitress was gone. Water came. Asked if we wanted another beverage, we declined. She spun on her heels and left. We waited. And waited. So someone saw me looking with a puzzled look on my face, she came to our table I asked her if she was our waitress and « she didn’t know » I asked if she could answer a question, she said yes, I asked about adding chicken to s caesar she said any of the « add ons » so i could add «  buffalo chicken «  yes, was it breaded , yes but she would tell the kitchen not breaded. So i said are you our waitress then ? Are you taking our order? Yes We waited and waited, now few people were in the restaurant. My friend said : « maybe she wasn’t our waitress snd she didn’t put in our order » At least 25-30 minutes passed. She came with our food. All but chucked it on the table again. And left no offer for anything else or ketchup . She was gone lightning fast. So my friend got up and looked on tables and found ketchup. Then she came to ask if the meal was ok but turned away before we could answer. My friend and i kinda chuckled because this experience was surreal. Turns out my chicken was breaded. Cut into crouton sized pieces hard to tell what it was , actually. It wasn’t bad , but at 18$i want to see what i am eating: is it chicken or a bacon bit? Also worth noting it was cold in the restaurant, my friend had to keep his coat on even with a long sleeved shirt and sweater underneath. Myself I was very chilled with 2 layers but my coat seemed too big to wear politely. The only option was 15% tip. It wasn’t worth squat. She left the card machine and never came back or gave me a copy. ABYSMAL service. I will order pizza from Alexandria pizzeria or any number of places in hawkesbury. And my family will never go back. There are options. While the building is beautiful and I am glad that my friend saw it, he won’t be returning either. By the way we were treated i don’t think that they will give a damn though. Try buvette du marche Belle sorelle Atlantic, The cozy korner, etc… lots of choices. Have a nice experience, this was embarrassing. Take a friend out to be treated like this. Amazing! This place ticked all the boxes you would want in a restaurant. Starting with the atmosphere. It's warm and cozy, with old-world charm and rustic appeal. The place is saturated in deep rich wood tones juxtaposed by large stones that make up the century-old mill. Ornate and delicate glasswork of cattails lines the walls. The music was softly playing in the background without being overly loud or distracting. It was also clean, which is a big plus. Next, the service. Perfection! I didn't get their name, but the person who waited on us was charming, friendly, warm, and jovial. Service was courteous, quick, efficient and they kindly warned us about portion sizes, as they are incredibly generous. Big tip for this lovely person. Now lets talk about the prices and portions. Fantastic. The prices best some of the so-called cheap fast food chains and the portion sizes are quite considerate. You absolutely get the best bang for your buck here. Finally the food itself. Delicious. Myself and two companions were all very satisfied with our meals, so I can only speak to our experiences with those dishes, but the grilled salmon with rice and grilled veggies was delectable. My companions had the buffalo chicken burger with poutine and Caesar salad. Both claimed their meals were enjoyable and the fact that the plates were picked clean is a testament to that. Finally the lemon meringue was divine. I was told it was a generous portion, and it was, but I inhaled it because it was so good. I am coming back to this place!

EDIT: I must edit my review as shortly after my initial visit, they changed the menu and increased the prices. I understand the need to make changes as needed, but offering less for more is rather tone deaf in this economy, while many struggle. I thought I'd found something truly special, that I would visit and support often. Alas, I will not and cannot afford to....

Brought our adult kids to eat on Saturday for Easter lunch, food was good but both waitresses assigned to us did not look like they wanted to be there. Had to always ask a second time for refills or napkins and couldn’t remember who had ordered what. Tables were not even ready when we got there. There was 10 of us. She got my order wrong… ordered a chicken burger but got a chicken bowl (basically a salad) but she never apologized. Said she heard me say chicken bowl. Took it anyways as I wanted to eat with everyone and not have to wait any longer. Had to pick out onions and peppers out of the salad despite spending over 300$. Had Easter chocolates for both waitresses but end up not giving it since the service and experience for my family was so bad. Kids thanked us for great food but all agreed the service was bad. Perhaps a gratuity should not be automatically added for large groups so the waitresses don ‘t do mediocre service? They didn’t care cause the gratuity was already added. Just a thought. Love this place but don’t think we will go back anytime soon. Left a sour taste in my mouth and the least she could have done is offer a discount of some sort for her error on my meal. ( heck would have settled for an apology). Which was...
