Ordered the dinner for three combo tonight. It’s the only Chinese food restaurant close enough to Ravenwoods in deep Cove North Vancouver. We usually prefer to order from the red door Or the red pepper Szechuan place on Lonsdale. I figured we would try to test these guys out. Big mistake. We ordered the dinner for three which comes with chicken chow mein, chicken, fried rice, beef, and broccoli and sweet-and-sour pork along with three spring rolls. The spring rolls were not cooked properly and Oversize, that could potentially be the problem why they were not cooked to perfection. The beef and broccoli was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately that’s the only dish I can put a compliment towards. The pork fried rice was very dry with very little flavour. The sweet-and-sour pork had a bit of sauce on it, but the pork was so dry, even though it was early in the evening you think that it might’ve actually been Decent. It definitely wasn’t. The chicken chow mein we received Had no sauce on it very blend No vegetables, only chicken and noodles. When I called back, the lady suggested that I should’ve ordered a different style of chow mein, which would’ve had sauce and more vegetables in it In my opinion, shouldn’t all chicken chow mein have vegetables and at least a little bit of sauce? Not too sure what she was talking about because I have never experienced such a Plain chow mein in my life. She asked me what she would like me to do about the order And I said sorry I’m not exactly sure about what you’re trying to ask me.
It felt like Care about what my complaint was about any of their food. She could’ve maybe said hey, how would I give you guys a discount next time or can I deliver you something now on the house to make up for The expensive food that you paid for and are unhappy about. Just a good suggestion as to not have high expectations for this restaurant if you order from them In the future.
We would also like to add to my review, I just spoke with the lady at the restaurant, To go over my food over once again to maybe get rid of the review to see if maybe they Would Offer me a refund. And I Would delete my review since it was so bad. And I’m a giving person and like to give companies a second chance, especially in this time of day. She then explained to me that they were so busy before I came to pick up my order (which was at 8pm) And that they had such a huge rush before I walked in even though I ordered my food at 7:20 PM I grabbed my food at exactly 8:22 And they had one couple in there sitting at a single table. The entire restaurant was completely empty. So I guess when I walked in there at that time, the entire restaurant has left and the cooks were so tired that they had to serve us really shitty crappy end of the night food. I’m so glad that on my bill of $57 that I tipped them $12 just because I felt bad for them. I personally don’t want to discount I don’t wanna refund. I will never go back to that place ever again and I recommend all of the deep Cove people And Ravenwoods On the side of town to just take that extra 2 km and head to Lonsdale for...

Food
Deep-Fried Squids with Spicy Salt
Unfortunately, this dish was underwhelming. While it arrived warm, the flavor profile was lackluster, offering nothing more than the taste of plain fried squid. The seasoning was virtually nonexistent, leaving the dish devoid of the bold, salty-spicy punch one expects from such a preparation. Having tasted superior versions elsewhere, this offering was a disappointment. Rating: 3/10
House Special Chop Suey
The House Special Chop Suey fared significantly better. Served warm, the portion size was generous and well-suited for sharing. The mixed vegetables were cooked good, retaining their vibrant colors and a pleasing crunch. The flavors were balanced and satisfying, though the dish could have been elevated further with the addition of a light broth or sauce to tie everything together. Overall, a solid effort. Rating: 8/10
Cream Corn and Crab Meat Soup
This soup was one of the standout dishes of the evening. It arrived at the good temperature, with a creamy, velvety texture that was both indulgent and comforting. The balance between the sweetness of the corn and the richness of the crab meat was good
Rating: 8/10
Shrimp Fried Rice
The Shrimp Fried Rice was a respectable offering. The portion size was ample, and the flavor was enjoyable, though it lacked a unique or distinguishing quality that would set it apart from similar dishes at other establishments. While not extraordinary, it was competently prepared and satisfying. Rating: 7/10
Ambiance
The ambiance at Golden Pearl Restaurant is straightforward yet pleasant. The space is clean, well-maintained, and inviting, offering a comfortable environment for diners. While it doesn’t stand out as particularly unique or luxurious, it meets expectations for a casual Chinese dining experience. Rating: 7/10
Service
The service was efficient and courteous, with staff displaying a welcoming and attentive demeanor. Dishes were served promptly, and the team ensured a seamless dining experience. Their professionalism added a positive touch to the evening. Rating: 8/10
Price
Pricing at Golden Pearl Restaurant is reasonable and provides good value for the portions and overall quality of the dishes. It’s an affordable option for a casual dining experience.
Verdict
Golden Pearl Restaurant offers a mix of highs and lows. While the Deep-Fried Squids with Spicy Salt fell short of expectations, the House Special Chop Suey and Cream Corn and Crab Meat Soup showcased the kitchen’s ability to deliver flavorful, well-prepared dishes. With its clean ambiance, attentive service, and fair pricing, the restaurant holds promise, and I look forward to exploring more of their menu on a...
Read moreThis restaurant has become the worst place that I’ve visited. Don’t get me wrong, the food was okay but there were 2 things that became a letdown.
The dishes were not clean. Before I had a nice cup of green tea, I noticed that there was a small of food sticking at the side in which I removed. Didn’t complain so I figured let’s enjoy the night.
Paying tip. Now I thought this place was an okay area to enjoy some good food. But in the end, there were 2 dumb waitresses who have been telling me to pay tip after dinner. Not cool.
First off, if I’m going to pay tip, I’ll pay it as long as the atmosphere is great, good customer service and some condiments for the food. Instead, forcing me to pay tip is a massive letdown, bad customer service and no soy sauce on the table. Overall, this restaurant should stay closed and forever closed until there’s a new management or a new store. I’ve had my share of dining at Chinese restaurants and this is not one of them. Would not recommend to anyone. Go search for...
