We were really excited to try the place out, given all of the rewards they’ve won. Unfortunately we did not have a good experience. Wasn’t met with a kind welcome, no smiles, but no big deal. We went off the waitresses’ recommendation, shared the ribs, brisket, and added pulled pork. First off, portions are small, which isn’t an issue if the quality of food is good. But keep in mind for the price, the portions are underwhelming. The food, sadly, was dry and very salty. The focus was way too much on the sauces and not on the quality of how well the meat was prepared. It might have been the time of day, but we got there around 7:30pm and the food came really quickly, making us think that they just warmed up something that was made awhile ago. I suppose warming up food is fine, but this was not quality meat. It’s as if they were trying to mask the dryness with all of the sauce and the only way to balance the saltiness out was with the coleslaw. We were starving so we dealt with it hoping the waitress would come around. She eventually asked how the food was, and despite the feedback of being salty and dry, she didn’t do anything about it. We finished the food since we were past the point of no return but it became pretty painful to eat by the end of it. Again, might have just been the time of day but we were not happy with our time there. We were really hoping for a nice evening at a nice place. 😔

My husband and I and my in-laws decided to try Smoke & Bones for the first time when we saw that they are participating in Dine Out Vancouver and we’re happy we did! Hands down the best bbq sauce I’ve ever had- it’s the perfect combination of everything… a little sweet, a little tang, a little spice. The cornbread is perfection, so nice and moist and all the meat was cooked exactly right as well (you get pulled pork, brisket and pork ribs). Their fries are not just your average side either, they are crispy and seasoned appropriately. Also, I love that the meal automatically comes with a side of extra bbq sauce since everyone’s preference on sauce to meat ratio varies. The Dine Out menu came with ice cream for dessert. We thought it was vanilla when we first saw it but it was actually Dutch apple crisp which I’d never heard of! It was delicious! I honestly didn’t expect much out of ice cream at a bbq place but this left a lasting impression and was served in a cute mini cast iron dish. The only reasons for not giving 5 stars are that the starter which was a chicken and bean soup was way too salty, and service was quite slow. However, our server was very friendly and attentive when he did come by. We’ll definitely come back and not hesitate to recommend smoke & bones to our friends.

This place has some delicious barbecue. Got my first taste when they were part of a catering event at my workplace and I couldn't wait to come back. We got the two meat platter and the Pitt wings. The beef brisket is absolutely amazing - soft, tender and full of flavor. My wife was personally impartial to the ribs because she really tasted the lovely smokey flavor and the meat came off the bones super easily. The Pitt wings were pretty good, but we felt like they were basted with too much sauce, though I suppose that is entirely to preference. It would have been a 5 star for the food alone, but we both felt the service was lacking. There was no one consistently monitoring the front desk. Dine in customers couldn't tell if they could get a seat because takeout orders were huddled around the front desk, and there was absolutely no clear order. Waited for a solid 30 minutes because no one was managing the doorway, only to be told that we were basically first in line. I think the waitstaff were quite polite and nice, but they just seemed too busy to really be very attentive, even after we were seated. Also, there's no point in wearing a face mask if you're going to have it tucked under the chin half the time. Just get another face covering if that's the case.

Honestly, a disappointing experience overall.

Decided to take my dad here for a Father's Day dinner after hearing many good things. We got there early for dinner at 5 PM and from the moment we sat down, it was pretty obvious what kind of experience we were in for.

No server came by for over 10 minutes. I guess there was miscommunication between the hostess and server. Took over 5 minutes for us to get some water and another 5 for our drinks. Only after we we got our drinks were we informed that they didn't have any pulled pork, farmer's sausage, and ABT's. All of which we were looking forward to. Apparently Father's Day was crazy and thats understandable if it was a random day but did a BBQ restaurant expect not to be busy on Father's Day? Also, if it was like this at 5 PM, what about the reservations made for the real dinner rush?

Anyways, onto the meal, it didn't take long for our nachos to come out as well as the platter soon after. The nachos were fine but didn't stand out from other places. Unfortunately there was a piece of hair in our sour cream and when we pointed it out to our server she didn't even say sorry and just brought us some more sour cream. We were also not compensated for the nachos.

When the platter came out, our server offered a few choices of hot sauce. We had to ask twice for our waiter to bring the hot sauce that she offered us. As for the platter itself, the brisket came out at room temperature, was dry and had way too much fat for my taste. Ribs were also a bit dry and also served at room temperature which was surprising given that our server said we had to wait 40 minutes for them to make new ribs. Coleslaw, potato salad and the chicken were all fine. Fries were served hot and crispy and were probably the best thing about the whole meal.

Its ridiculous to think of a BBQ restaurant that serves their meat at room temperature and truthfully I feel ripped off. At these prices, one would expect better service and better tasting food. For all the hype, this was a complete let down. Hope that mine was a rare occurrence and that other people had a decent...

I'll preface this by saying we were a table of 14. I don't believe there was any other table larger than 8 on a Friday night. Still, our table was ready when some of us arrived at 7:30pm.

As expected, 70% of our table was late and when most of the table had arrived and was ready to order drinks, we had to wait as our server stated that she couldn't possibly keep track of who wanted what for drinks.

I found this unusual to say the least. It's not like we were moving around sitting in different seats. When I was a server 20 years ago, we were taught to assign a number to each seat and get the customer's name and their respective order.

We were denied our drink order until our full party had arrived. We weren't even offered water while we waited and had to ask for it. This translates into lost sales for the establishment.

When our food arrived, we couldn't eat it. We had no cutlery. Personally, I didn't understand how our table was set and ready for us and yet there was no cutlery.

In the end, our friend had to send an order of the ribs back as it was too dry and tough. My full rack of ribs arrived warm and truthfully not as I expected from an award winning caterer.

We were never asked for water refills but thankfully the one order of ribs we had replaced was tasty and delicious.

For my initial experience, I can't say I was entirely pleased, but I will try again next time - with a party of no...
