Ordered the BBQ Chicken & Sizzling Manilla pizza online and came in to pick it up. The staff member had assumed the guy that came it right before me had ordered my pizzas and was trying to give them to him but he said he only ordered one and she asked him, quite confused, "aren't you Kim?" 😂 I piped in and said those were mine she handed them off to me without confirming my order number or what I ordered.
Based on all the 5 star reviews, we were expecting something pretty dang good. Unfortunately, the BBQ pizza was super soggy and had lots of raw green peppers and mushrooms on top. It looked like whoever made the pizza put the BBQ sauce and cheese down first, then the chicken and finally the raw veggies. If they were already grilled or cooked in some way prior to going in the over or put under the cheese, it would would have been better than the plain, half cooked veggies. The other one had a better, more cooked crust, so the middle wasn't soggy. The flavour was really good, but the chilies were overpowering. I am Filipino and was not expecting that much spice from something with Manila in the name LOL.
UPDATE: The owner called and was kind enough to offer to redo our order so that we could experience the true Captains Oven Pizza. Our remade pizzas live up to the other great reviews of the pizzas. My BBQ Chicken pizza had a good crust, wasn't soggy in the middle, and the veggies were perfect cooked. The Sizzling Manilla looks completely different from the first version and tastes great. I'm really impressed with the leader and ownership, Elroy went above and beyond to address my review and we had a much better experience. Will...
Read moreMy partner and I had watched the setting up of Captain's Oven at Capilano Mall for the last few months. When I returned from vacation toward the end of October I was pleased to see that the restaurant was finally open. Due to one thing or another I didn't stop by until today. I had spoken with a clerk in the liquor store across from the restaurant last week, and he gave it a glowing review, so today I stopped by to try it out. When you do Neopolitan style pizza, which they do, you really have to nail it, because there aren't a lot of components to hide behind. The staff were warm and welcoming, and obviously proud of their product. They told me that they used the best quality cheese, and the meats that they used on the pies are brought in from Italy. The slice of pepperoni pizza that I ordered had a beautiful thin crust, and just enough cheese, pepperoni and sauce. As a matter of fact, it tasted like more, so I ordered a second slice. I will be back. They also deliver. Monday through Thursday, they deliver between 4 and 9:30 for no delivery charge, and they deliver the rest of the week for a delivery fee between $3-4. (Definitely check their site to confirm this, because I don't want to inadvertently give you bad information.) So, if you are on the North Shore, consider stopping by Capilano Mall and checking them out. I don't think that you'll be disappointed. I...
Read moreMy daughter and I were with Por Por (Grandma) and we needed some dinner. We decided to try out the newly opened location of Captain's Oven Pizza, inside Capilano Mall. It's got about 2 or 3 small tables where you can sit and eat but appears to be mainly a takeout pizza joint.
I thought maybe we'd get one Vegetarian pizza, and one pizza with meat on it to bring home. Au contraire...Grandma decided we should get 4 different pizzas to try! Only with Grandma would we ever come home with 4 pizzas for 3 people. We got one small size each of Pepperoni, Hawaiian, Eggplant & Zucchini, and Caprese.
They were all delicious. My personal favourite was the Caprese. The flavours of the pesto, grape tomatoes and red onions really stood out for me. Plus, the bright red colour of the grape tomatoes just made it more visually appealing. Sometimes I find that when my food looks better, it also tastes better.
Service: Good Parking: Plentiful and free. Location: Inside Capilano Mall which is an extremely quiet mall; however, it's got a handful of good stores to offer as well as Walmart, which is a convenient place for groceries, clothing...etc. Also, there are many other businesses outside the mall; the much busier and trendier mall, Park Royal is a...
