it rained all day and I wanted to eat out tonight
I live close to Yuko Maki and although it hasn't been my favourite "go to" it was close, the food was inexpensive and consistent.I probably hadn't been there in a year
We entered and it looked the same as always. but...It looked more cozy this time as I left the wind and rain battering the door behind me The delicious smell of steaming Miso reminded me of why I chose Japanese tonight
at the front of the restaurant are bags upon bags of take out waiting to be picked up. Covid is good to Yuki Maki We showed our covid passports and were seated
The server wasn't friendly(I don't think they ever are)but it was really busy there.Maybe I'm complaining too much. she brought us hot Green tea, it was the best thing since coming in from out of the cold (and wet)
in the background I could faintly hear classic rock.I would of rather listened to buddhist chimes then Bon Jovi "Living on a Prayer" but no place is perfect
We sat in a booth,I love booths.I could hear medium volume chatter from the other patrons, the servers were running around an you could hear a constant (strong accent) voice of the girl at the cash register taking order on the phone, one after another after another I looked around me,It had been a while since I was here,I got an almost Christmas vibe,I smiled :)
We were hungry and so made up our minds quick Food was served, chopsticks were split, we mixed soy with wasabi in those little dishes and we "let er have it" nosh nosh
sushi was fresh, gyoza was cooked almost perfect, the spicy fried tofu was spicy good.the chicken teriyaki was hot, tender and sweet but not too sweet I might of missed on a a few things on the plate but believe me it was good
"anything else, are you done?"the waitress popped her head in, then cleared our plates and poured more green tea in one motion I sat back and took my time on this final cup of perfectly brewed Japanese tea
I paid up, it was just over $20 a person with the tip and Im ready to conquer the elements outside once again
I asked myself has it always been this good?who cares, it was real good...
Read moreYuko Maki has become our family’s go-to place whenever we’re at Lonsdale and want a quick sushi meal. The service is fast, the prices are reasonable, and their longer operating hours set them apart from nearby options. While the staff isn’t overly friendly (don’t expect many smiles), they’re efficient, and we’ve never had issues with the service.
We usually go for their bento boxes, and on our last visit, we ordered the beef teriyaki box, a special sushi roll (which was delicious), and yaki udon. The yaki udon arrived sizzling hot and was a good portion, but the flavor fell a bit short of its appealing presentation. I feel Yuko Maki keeps their flavors more neutral to appeal to a broader audience, which I understand —it ensures everyone feels comfortable dining here.
This neutral environment is one of the reasons we keep coming back. On our last visit, we first considered trying a Korean restaurant just a few shops away. However, while checking out their menu, we felt uneasy—the staff and even some customers inside gave us strange looks, making us feel unwelcome. We decided to skip it and returned to Yuko Maki, where the atmosphere is always inclusive.
Sure, Yuko Maki’s flavors may not always pack a punch, but the reliable food, reasonable prices, and sense of belonging make it a preferable...
Read moreUPDATED Review, Yuko Maki is one of the only Sushi place I've consistently gone to almost every weekend, for almost the past 8 years. I posted a picture of their Gomae because it deserves to be there. It is literally the best Gomae I've tasted from anywhere, something about their sesame sauce, so good. 😋 I'm obsessed 😍 but they also have an Ika Karage which is also the best squid/calamari I have ever tasted, like wow, the chef's are amazing 👏 😍 and then the negitoro cone, is spot on, makes my taste buds dance. 😋 they are super affordable and having amazing booths to sit in with your family or just with your partner ❤️ I definitely love this place, they have these amazing sushi specials and super combos you won't regret trying. If your in North Vancouver definitely try out this place, and their freaking Gomae, it's a spinach salad with sesame sauce for those that aren't familiar 😋 anyways Yuko Maki keep it up and don't raise your prices too high 😉 I love Yuko Maki because your the best priced sushi...
