We were 5 people and went to have brunch. It was the most horrific experience I have ever had in 52 years of going to restaurants. They made us wait while other people who arrived way after us got their food. Then finally we order coffee and we asked for splenda and had to wait a good 10 minutes for it. The food took forever and when it came the burger looked terrible and my son did not eat it. We ordered the cheeseburger and of course there was no cheese and took forever to get cheese on the same burger. We also ordered Hot Wings and it never came ot seemed like our waitress forgot about it. Eventually we asked for the bill and for 5 people it was over $130 Dollars. Poor service, terrible food, I heard that it has changed ownership and it is so apparent that the new owners have no clue as to how to operate a restaurant. On top of everything, 2 of the tables that were sitting around us also complained. Eightees used to be an awesome place to eat and now I would never go back again. They didnt even take stuff off the bill or offered anything to us. No wonder Earls and Cactus are so successful. The smallest mistake, the manager comes and says sorry and they don't charge you for the food. I hope this helps and the management realizes that if they continue to operate this way, Eightees will close down. If you need help to fix it I can help. But I would never go there again until its fixed. I have been reading the responds from the owners or whomever they have responding to reviews. It seems like the person is a cocky teenager. Its best to first own up to mistakes and apologize, then ask for a call back to talk about the details of the mistake so that the restaurant can correct the issues, and offer a free dessert or something to make up for the bad experience. This person representing the restaurant is arguing with people, calling them suspicious, and is avoiding the mistakes. Always own up to your mistakes and ask for details so that you can correct the issues. These days with the existence of the internet you don't have a chance to act arrogant on consumers You will shut down. Be humble, own the mistakes, and...
Read moreI just found that Google Reviews only allows a person to submit only ONE review of a restaurant.
Now I will speak of today, May 15.
I have a bowl of Polish soup.
It had sausages, onions and a many other tasty ingredients.
First, I tasted just the soup broth to see what it tasted like. Wow! It might be the best soup I have ever had. If not, it is darned close! To be honest, I don't remember a better tasting soup.
I have trouble describing how food tastes, and "This soup is good!", was what I exclaimed as soon as I tasted it.
I asked my wife and best friend to sampled it. They did and agreed it was excellent soup. Yes, we are barbarians. But we are happy barbarians!
The rest of the soup made for very happy taste buds! It is very, very slightly spicy, at the exact level I like. The sausage was yummy.
I am not normally a soup person. But I try to have every one of the Eighties soups. One of their chefs is a master at creating great soups.
Natasha served us and as usual made us feel special. This was while the restaurant was very busy, too. She knows our quirks and automatically accommodates us. We have been regular customers for years.
Natasha is friendly and wicked smart.
I believe it was March 12 when the Eighties had a Meatloaf Special. And Special it was.
It was the best meatloaf I have ever had in my life. It was perfection.
The chefs at the Eighties are all certified chefs, and it shows.
The entire meal was perfect. They cooked the carrots and broccoli perfectly! Not over or under cooked.
Even the mashed potatoes and gravy were perfect.
Seriously, the entire meal was perfect.
Georgina gave her usual great level of service, making certain she met our every need and desire. Georgina is very friendly and personable and always makes our dining experience a pleasure.
In short, the Meatloaf Special was Special with...
Read moreGreat location with so much potential, but, unfortunately, just a "meh" breakfast experience. Not bad for the price and style, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again given that there are way better options in the neighbourhood.
Eighties is a family style restaurant with a vibe similar to the Pantry, ABC, Ricky's, and other BC standards. Decor and menu are long overdue for an update, but I guess that kind of goes with the territory for this style of restaurant. Tired and dated, but not gross or sketchy in any way.
Very busy when I visited (11am Sunday), but I was seated right away. Crowd tended toward the retired/borderline geriatric - folks that had probably been eating there for years. Got the feeling that the place was a textbook example of a restaurant that could make a fortune if it updated and drew in the younger crowd that have moved to the 'hood, but won't for fear of losing its aging loyal customer base.
Service was quick and efficient. Nothing to write home about, but also not the horrible experience that other reviewers described. Server took my order, disappeared, brought back food a few minutes later, then cleared the table and brought the debit machine when I was done. Worked for me.
Food was classic greasy American breakfast. Scrambled eggs were alright. Bacon seemed like it was the cheap stuff you would get at an all you can eat hotel buffet. Hash browns came is one big lump - crispy on the outside, kind of mushy on the inside. Everything arrived quickly and was good and hot. Not the kind of fare that will blow your mind, but definitely better than Denny's or IHOP.
If you are in the mood for a cheap family restaurant style breakfast, then, by all means, check Eighties out. Fingers crossed that the owners decide to refresh the space and the menu one day. The area could really use another quality...
