Reviewing about my visit on the evening of July 10th. Please ignore the one star, I would be giving 0 if I could.
My boyfriends family and I have been coming to Yaas Grill for years. We have recommended it to multiple people and make the drive in from Langley/Surrey as often as possible. We also spend a lot of our special occasions eating here as it’s been a family favourite for years. On the evening of July 10th, we drove in after having a wonderful day and wanted to finish it off by eating at our favourite restaurant. We have noticed that since the other location started becoming increasingly popular, the quality has gone down a bit at this location. That’s fine though, it still normally tastes good. When my boyfriend ordered for us as I went to the washroom to wash my hands, he said the staff gave him attitude but we let it go and brushed it off as they might just be having a bad day. When we finally got our food, I took one bite and decided to grab a take-out container as I immediately knew it tasted off & not to my liking. My boyfriend had a few bites and asked if mine was also cold. I tried a bite of his and it was in fact cold. Not even warm. We decided to complain which we’ve never even thought of doing here and to our surprise, it was an extremely unpleasant experience. The person at the front was rude (I’m not even sure if it was the same person as I went outside) and refused to refund even one of the meals. When my boyfriend came back out and told me they refused to refund or remake it, I decided to call and complain to a manager. The person working on cash wouldn’t pass me through to a manager, she just kept saying she would do what I asked and was there to help me. I found that comforting but at this time I just wanted it refunded. I sent my boyfriend in again and the two females were at the register speaking to him. One kept asking how she was rude (which makes 0 sense because we never said anything about her being rude both on the phone nor in person amongst ourselves until we were in the car driving home). She asked him multiple times why I said she was rude which made him uncomfortable and even made him call me and ask if I had said that. Then, they said they would only refund the one meal (mine) which was still not good enough as yes his had a few bites out of it, but that was because he tried a few areas of the meat and I took a bite out of his to confirm if the whole thing was cold or if it was just the one area. While he was standing there, one of the girls began to speak in another language talking bad about us and the whole situation. When my boyfriend confronted them about it- they denied it and said “She’s just talking to me”. My boyfriend finished it off by saying “I understand the language and know what she is saying.” At that point, the people in line behind my boyfriend who were wanting to order even walked out. We’re assuming due to horrible customer service. Finally after him standing there for what felt like forever, they refunded both meals. They just handed him a $20 which of course wasn’t what we paid for the meals including tax and with their original pricing, but after the nightmare situation of trying to get our refund back we had enough and just wanted to be done with it. I will NEVER go back here. We have made sure to tell everyone we know who goes here about this experience and they are all equally as shocked and disgusted as we were during this situation. Please figure out your staff. The food wasn’t even that big of...
Read moreCalled Yaas and they advised if ordered on their website for pick up there's (currently) 10% off. You can choose the time the food is ready. *This review is for the 1629 Lonsdale Ave location, as they have a second place up the street. We ordered the Boneless Chicken Kebab Dish, the Boneless Chicken Soltani (with Beef Kubideh) Kebab Dish, and the Eggplant Dip with Persian Sauce. When I arrived at Yaas the food was ready right on time and the staff were very nice. Back to the car (although they had dine-in, we weren't yet comfortable with that) and the food looked fantastic with a generous amount of tahdig that I was happy to see. The Eggplant Dip had fried onions and (I think) dried mint which all together smelled incredible. I ate almost half of the order. The Kebabs were equally delicious. Tender meat, well seasoned, and juicy. I also found at the bottom of the bag some limes and raw onions and a bag of pita which we weren't expecting but was a nice surprise. Beef Kubideh with a sliver of onion in pita-so tasty. The value for the quantity/quality/taste is hard to beat. Yaas has been consistent since we first tried it years ago so we will continue to come here when in North Van. Another visit, ordered online, and food was ready right on time. I usually order the kebab so wanted to try something different. Got the Mixed Herb Stew Dish ($7.99) with a side of plain rice ($2.00). Along with the other dishes, we got the pita/lime/onions and the tahdig. I think the added some barberries to the tahdig which I had never had before. It was slightly sweet which was nice along with the savoury foods. The stew was hearty and perfect for a cool gray day. There were plenty of dried lemons which was a nice sour earthy balance to the richness and there was a good amount of beef chunks. I would order this again easily. The side of rice was enough for 3 of us! $10?! Incredible when compared to what $10 gets you at other places. Yaas delivers on flavour, portion, and value...
Read moreWe got catering service from this restaurant & all of our guests just loved the food & ate with joy. Anytime we are out in North Van & crave Persian Food, we head straight to this simple, but very friendly restaurant. They have the most amazing Saffron rice pudding that has no dairy & taste amazing! Kabobs are marinated in Saffron sauce which give them the most delicious taste & very appetizing appearance. Yes, it is not a fancy restaurant, but who cares?! It is clean & nice enough & you don't have to wait for a hostess to provide seats & wait for a waiter to take your order. You simply choose what you'd like off of either the wall menu that has large enough pictures of the great looking variety of delicious stews, Kabobs, appetizers, deserts & what not; or from the menus on the tables & the counter beside the cash register. Then you take your utensils & napkins across from the cash register & sit & wait for your food to arrive. I highly recommend this restaurant located between 16th & 17th of Lonsdale Avenue where the smell of kabob is most of the times in the air from at least a block away which makes you want some right away. And when you go for it, you'll love it! Thanks to the new manager of the joint who has made great changes for the better in that restaurant, we will be back & will recommend it to everyone with different tastes ( They also have veggie options & fish kabob with variety of rice dishes & they make their own excellent bread). If you dine there once, I'm sure you...
