Photos showing a freshly made falafel made me hopeful that this could be a good spot for Mediterranean food. With a number of positive reviews, they didn't steer me wrong on this one.
In a small little building just off of Ford Drive, Shawarmarama shares the area with a commercial fast food spot. It doesn't look like much but when you walk in, you noticed how clean and well maintained it is. It looks new with not a speck of dirt anywhere. There are at least 5 booth tables that can sit easily 4 people in each and there are more smaller seating if it gets crowded.
Service here is immediately attentive and also alert. It never felt lazy or disinterested. I appreciated the 2 people (owners?) were constantly asking questions to make sure you got exactly the best they could offer and what you liked the most.
The menu looks like most other Mediterranean places with very fair pricing for wraps and plates. They have the chicken and beef on offering in addition to the falafels for vegetarian.
One thing I liked is the vegetables on display... they all were fresh. No wilting or discolouring! Also, I liked how they got the frozen fries and freshly made falafel all ready to be deep fried after ordering... nothing is held premade and just reheated. Another group ordered before us and we saw the plates being made... they were very generous in chicken shawarma on top of the fries. This seems to be a good spot for those who are hungry for plates of meat!
Falafel plate with hummus (extra) and fries - Totally loved how they freshly fried up the Falafel. I can't believe I have to say that but freshly made falafels make such a difference. These were fried up hot and crispy and fully cooked. They had a pleasant note of spice to it and the addition of the garlic and hot sauce just added to the flavour. Fries were standard and didn't add to the plate. Hummus was generous and smooth. The falafel definitely was one of the better ones I've had in the GTA. 4/5
Great little spot for anyone who's starving for Mediterranean. Freshly made with generous portions and fair prices ... really can't ask for any better out of a fast...
Read moreShawarma restaurant right on the edge of Oakville/Mississauga. Right off the Royal Windsor highway exit, so relatively quick to get to.
Overall the place is okay, however the highlight is the service. We dined in, and while we didn't get traditional table service, the person manning the kitchen/cashier area made sure we had had everything when we picked it up at the counter. He was also very pleasant to deal with.
The price is a bit high considering the quality of the produce and quantity in the meal. While the chicken shawarma wrap was good (it was a fair size and was filled), the chicken shawarma plate was the dish which was lacking. Smaller than anticipated, and with fewer vegetables we were left satisfied but not necessarily fulfilled. The shawarma wrap was around $9 and the plate was around $14. The restaurant is fully halal as well, and noted as much on their website.
Of note, when we asked for tap water it wasn't available given a lack of cups available at the time.
All in all, it was okay. While I would go back, it's not necessarily on the...
Read moreA buddy from work showed me this place and I never looked back. I eat so much trash fast food this place feels like a saving grace. I'm not a vegetable guy for the most part, admittedly I have a pretty horrible diet. But the Shawarma plate with salad at Shawarmarama has me hooked. I feel amazing after I eat it, and my bodies craves their tasty veggies! I take that as an indication this is good, clean food. And the taste is unreal. The owner is a super cool guy also, always friendly and in the mood to be doing what he does best, serving delicious food.
Other Shawarma places in the area can't compare. I am a recent convert from Osmows, and I must say, I'll never go there again! We look forward to getting Shawarmarama every Thursday on lunch at work, and if you go there I guarantee you will too. Worth every single penny. I even double dip whenever I can and go multiple times a week. Two days in a row is a common thing.
Do yourself a favor and check out Shawarmarama. You'll be happy you did! The food speaks for itself.
Thanks Shawarmarama for all the...
