This was my second visit to your location. The first visit on October 8th for brunch eith my daughter and her family was an amazing experience, the food and service was amazing. I don't know the server's name however she was friendly and attentive and was very sweet to my 3 year old grandson. We left extremely happy and decided that this was going to ve the place for our future brunches. Friendly service, delicious food and clean . Saturday Oct 14th. Brunch with my daughter and grandson was the total opposite, we ordered pancakes with whip cream just like in the picture on uour menu, my daughter also requested chocolate chip to be added, this was for my grandson. She also ordered a BLT for herself and fruits with NO pineapple. The server responded, I don't think we have pineapple so its okay. My daughter is allergic to pineapple.. soon after a young girl brought over French toast with chocolate chip, my daughter said that she had ordered pancakes with chocolate chip not French toast. The girl took it back to the server, Ronda, who did not even apologize she appeared to be upset that the food was returned. When the dish of fruit was brought over, there was pineapple included, therefore she could not eat any. My grandson and I finished it off. When my daughter mentioned the pineapple to the server she just looked at her with a blank expression, no apology. My food came, my daughter food came followed by the pancakes with NO whip cream . We waited about 5 minutes before asking hoping she will bring it. Eventually I asked her for the whip cream, instead of bringing it over she checked out a group sitting at the front, brought food for another and took the order for a group of young guys that was recently seated at the front. She took her sweet time. Still no apology. Soon after she was refilling coffee, my cup was empty however she passed me and refilled the Asian couple sitting g in front of us, mind you these people were seated a while after us. At first I thought Ronda was having a bad day but as the meal progressed wd realized that she was absolutely 💯 Prejudice/ Racist. The other server, who was working the lest side of the restaurant, looking from the entrance. Short blond hair, her name is Shannon with an amazing personality was more attentive, while topping up her customers coffee she twice asked me to top up mine. She also chatted with my grandson when he was returning from the washroom and gave him a pack of gold fish crackers, that made his day . She was not even our server but showed what true hospitality is. Finally, I would like to express that this review does NOT reflect the true picture of this restaurant however in the food service or any service type business, hospitality and friendly service is what bring customers back. The food could be the best however if the service is poor the customer will not likely return . We are as strong as our weakest link and yesterday, Ronda was your weakest link. It does not matter what your personal views are when you choose yo be in the service business, all uour guests are equal and must be treated the same.. We will be returning customers as our first visit was an amazing experience, however will request to be seated in another server's...
Read moreIn short, if visiting with kids/toddler, stay away. Otherwise, expect average food and not-so-great coffee. Go to sunset grill or Cora's or eggsmart. You will not only get better food but also far superior hospitality.
Long version... We came with 3 adults, 6 kids and 1 toddler around noon for breakfast. The kids were mostly first cousins. Every other place in the city including eggsmart, sunset grill and others were busy with at least 30 min wait times. We were surprised to see this place almost empty when we arrived (We did call ahead to check availability but did not expect it to be as empty).
The lady (who later introduced us as the owner) who sat us down was very friendly and we felt welcome. Time between ordering and receiving food was about 10-15 mins (normal). The food was pretty average. Fries were good. Coffee was not very good.
The toddler with us was quite active and was going on other unoccupied tables and shaking the salt and pepper bottles. The waitress (owner) let us know that he was doing this and I apologized and ensured that I stopped him from doing this. And kept a closer eye on him as well. A few mins later he was playing with the other kids on the cushion seating. Our lady waitress came to us, sat down and said "Let me introduce myself" followed by "I am the owner of this restaurant".
She continued (paraphrasing), "Your son is walking on the cushion chairs, they are light colored (perhaps pointing to them getting potentially dirty) and I am wondering what we can do to resolve the situation". We were a bit confused at first since she wanted us to propose a resolution lol. Due to our confused look, she again said something like "I am asking what WE (pointing to us and her) can do to resolve this". At this point I simply responded by saying I will take care of my son (and stop him from doing this). She left after that.
After the above incident, she no longer had the friendly attitude. Furthermore, all cushion seats were slightly blackened from regular wear and tear anyways. My son's shows were clean (not an excuse for his behavior); not wet or muddy or anything like that.
While I am disappointed in what my son was doing, I am also disappointed in how the owner dealt with this. This was my first and last time at this restaurant. We go to Cora's, sunset grill and eggsmart quite regularly - We have never seen our host behave towards us like this.
The hospitality left a lot to be desired (including authentic friendliness/helpfulness), the food in general was average and coffee was very acidic. For precisely these reasons I and my family would not be going to this place (nor any other Sunnyside Grill for...
Read moreThe first time I had breakfast at this location in Oakville was ok, a passable middle-of-the-pack breakfast-to-lunch place. Nothing to write home about. But the second time I visited fell well below my expectations. As usual in a dine-in service, I was asked what I would like to start out with. My server offered coffee and orange juice but I asked for coffee and just water. The coffee came but the water never came. A good test of a breakfast restaurant is how competent the cooks are in preparing Eggs Benedict. I ordered the "Poached California" benny (I didn't know that it could come other than poached), which comprises of 2 strips of bacon topped with avocado slices and, of course, hollandaise sauce. There was a random avocado slice on my plate which the cook forgot to put between the bacon and the eggs. It was a bit busy so the service was a bit slow, which is understandable. My plate arrived and I noticed that the English muffins under the eggs and sauce were burnt around the edges (no, not well-done but burnt), as were about a third of the flat-top grilled home fries. The eggs were cooked perfectly soft and runny as requested but the hollandaise barely covered the eggs. It looked like no more than one tablespoon of sauce on each egg. With the English muffins being burnt, it was difficult to slice through it, even when a steak knife was provided. I should have sent my order back but couldn't wait another 15-20 minutes for them to remake as it was getting close to the time I had to pick my dog up from the groomer next door. While my server was not exceptional (but did bring my water when I asked the second time), I left her a tip of more than 20% as my issue was not so much with her but with the cook. I hope Sunnyside Grill can improve the quality of their cooking so that customers are likely to return. Return customers are the lifeline of any business. As for me, I will not...
