We enjoyed our coffee and baked goods at this location. This felt like a good fit for Wortley Village as it had cute small town vibes. However, our visit unfortunately did not end well at all.
I visited this location with clients yesterday afternoon. I work for an agency serving adults with physical and cognitive disabilities. We came in with two of our staff (including myself) and three clients. We spent about $40 between us all on coffee and treats. The five of us were sitting at a table for six people.
After about an hour we were asked to leave because we weren't buying anything anymore. I informed the server who asked us to leave that our ride was coming in about 10-15 minutes. She replied that she needed the table for other customers, so we would have to stand outside. It was clear that this would be extremely difficult for our clients. There were also other customers (two people at a table for four) sitting close by our table that had been there longer, and were no longer buying anything. They were not asked to leave.
I understand that this is a small establishment with limited seating. Had we been told off the bat that our visit needed to be short, or told at that time that we needed to leave in 10 minutes, this could have been arranged. I am super disappointed by the lack of empathy that was demonstrated here. I am sincerely hoping this is an isolated occurrence and that others with disabilities have not been treated this way by your staff. We definitely won't be back again with any of our clients from our agency and I will struggle to ever return to this...
Read moreI was just treated to a late lunch at the Black Walnut Bakery Cafe in Wortley Village, London, Ontario. It was my first visit and definitely will not be my last! It offers an amazing menu with delicious soups, salads, sandwiches served on yummy freshly baked whole wheat bread, quiche and a huge array of baked goods, fair trade coffees, tea, lattes.....just about anything you can wish for.
I was amazed at the choices for a small cafe. The menu is written on black boards behind the counter. The staff were very patient and welcoming as I pondered my options. I ordered a turkey Swiss sandwich served on thick whole wheat bread. It had sliced tomato in the sandwich, the turkey was thinly sliced but was plentiful. It was the best turkey sandwich I have ever had! It was so big I could only eat half, but that was okay because the sandwiches are served in fancy boxes which can be used to take your food home and can be recycled. Along with this treat I ordered the soup of the day which was pumpkin with goat cheese. I was unable to identify the well chosen spices in the soup but, it was tasty and not overpowering. Of course the goat cheese made it so smooth. I loved it.
There was no way I could eat dessert but I did purchase some delicious butter tarts to take home. They too were so good...all the important things....generous size, flaky pastry, and a little runny....just perfect.
Another important part...plenty of street parking. I...
Read moreIâm from out of town and I came to Black Walnut and got their pumpkin spice latte. It was good but after 3 sips I noticed there was something big and crunchy in my drink... I spit it out and it was a fly.... I chewed a fly that was in my drink. I was very grossed out and disgusting and I was just down the street so I walked back and told them with the fly in hand and the manger (who made my drink) just started making me a new one. I understand that these things can happen but he didnât seem apologetic or anything... he didnât offer a refund, he just said âwant a cookie for the inconvenienceâ in a short tone. I asked if it just flew in or if it was in the coffee maker (as I was worried for a new drink) and he said itâs never happened before this year so it just must have flew in, but again, in a short tone. Again I understand these things can happen but it would be nice if they were apologetic or kind about this.. it seemed like I annoyed or...
