Unbelievably rude service. When I arrived my friends had got ahead of me by about 5 minutes. Neither one of them had ordered anything alcoholic which is their right but that may have set the single somewhat young bartender/waiter on duty off. This was on Friday evening, February 28, 2025.
When I arrived I inquired about any Trappist style beer available to which the waiter/bartender replied in a haughty and condescending tone with a heavy European accent: "It's right in front of you" indicating to my open beer menu. I had literally just sat down and rather than simply answering my question in a friendly and hospitable manner this arrogant little man decides to be rude. My two friends and I were shocked by the level of contempt in the waiter/bartender's voice. When I asked if the kitchen was open he answered in a similarly frustrated and exasperated tone that it was not. It was 15 minutes to 10pm on a Friday night after a hockey game at Budweiser Gardens had just concluded.
After I ordered my drink he proceeded to continue his closing duties as quickly as possible - he was obviously in a rush to leave and get out as soon as he could and our arrival was an inconvenience. I ordered a second beer after he made a last call for the night but at that point I already had a sour taste in my mouth.
By 10:30pm the waiter/bartender had left and been replaced by a female coworker who had dimmed the lights and disappeared. I and my friends were left alone in an otherwise empty pub.
I took the time to delete my previous 5 star review to update and add this new 1 star review to point out how low this establishment has fallen. Excellent service has been replaced by shallow and an inexcusably mean spirited attitude, unconcerned with being mannerly and welcoming. I would have spent generously and rewarded generously as I have on every previous visits but instead I was made to feel unwelcome, and was embarrassed in front of my friends to whom I had suggested the establishment and who were there for the first time.
Once this was one of the best and most elegant pubs for service and hospitality in the whole city and now it has been reduced to a cranky, miserly and unimpressive food and beverage venue of its former self with bad and unpleasant staffing and if I ever come back it will not be by choice but because I was forceably...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat ambiance, but that's where it ends. Our server was terribly slow, avoided our gaze, and when she did finally come over, she would take one person's drink order instead of the whole table. The food was more miss than hit. The calamari was exceptional, but the rouladen was awful - I'm pretty sure it was made with Spam inside instead of real ham and the beef was tasteless and had a greyish cast to it. The goulash tasted of ketchup and the dumplings were much too doughy. We were so happy when we walked in -- seemed like the perfect spot to eat and hangout after over drinks, but we left more quickly than we...

They have an outstanding display of beer from around the world.
It's the only place I know of that serves my favourite beer (Delirium Tremens), and it's on tap!
The environment is so fitting of an eclectic watering hole, with a real raging fire place with swords hanging above, a real ambient vibe, and the nicest servers you could ask for.
Also noticed they had a bottle of absinthe from Netherlands or Belgium up there, so you know they bring in the good stuff!
Foods good too I believe, but that's not on my agenda when I head...
