The delivery fee was $16! We placed an online order today. We are located 3.3 km from this restaurant. The website advertises free delivery after a $20 order, my coworker and I surpassed it. The delivery arrived and called us to pick up the food from her vehicle outside. There was no tap function on the debit machine, my coworker had to use the pin pad. Additionally, a $5 tip was added onto the machine automatically that could not be altered.
We asked the delivery driver about the $16 delivery fee and she called the restaurant owner who was yelling at her on the phone. She passed the phone to my coworker who asked him about this exorbitant fee when the website said free delivery? He said because we are located 10 mins. away. He was incredibly rude. I will NEVER purchase from this establishment again and suggest others refrain from giving their business to someone who takes advantage during a worldwide pandemic.
We paid $21 to receive a $40-something order of food from 3.3 km away. This business is a shame to Windsor and NOT how small businesses in this region operate.
$16 fills up a half tank of gas in this day and age! I am an essential healthcare worker and I couldn't imagine taking advantage of people and lying as East Side Shawarma has when people are in panic mode. I hope this comment is responded to as my coworker especially deserves an apology...
Read moreI've come to eat here and order delivery from here pretty frequently since they opened a few years ago, along with my family and friends who do the same. The experience is usually great as the shawarma is some of the best in Windsor and the cheapest prices in Windsor by far. I ordered for delivery and my bill was 28$ for 2 shawarmas, 1 with extra meat and a bottle of coke. So now I'm noticing there's a 8.50 delivery fee PLUS delivery fee tax equaling about 9.50 when I live a literal 20 second drive from the restaraunt. Never ran into this issue as I'm usually ordering for multiple people, but I said okay and went through with it as I love their food and don't mind paying extra during these times to avoid going out as much. The wait time for my order was an hour, which okay I can understand, midday they can have plenty of people in store and in line which is a priority. I get my food a little over an hour later and the chicken in the shawarma is dead cold, soggy lettuce and vegetables and no extra chicken to be seen inside either shawarma. I felt I needed to leave this review because in a time when people are going to be ordering delivery more frequently, it's imporant to ensure the meal is enjoyable especially considering you're charging just under 10 dollars to deliver in a zone less than 1km...
Read moreEast Side Shawarma is a great spot in Windsor if you’re craving flavorful shawarma. The meat is consistently tender, well-seasoned, and easily the highlight of the menu. Their garlic sauce also deserves a shoutout — it leans more toward an Iraqi style rather than the traditional Lebanese toum, giving it a unique and bold character that pairs well with their wraps and plates.
The one area I think could use a little improvement is the potatoes. They currently serve spicy Iraqi-style potatoes, which have good flavor but sometimes come out a bit chewy, likely from the steaming or holding method. Personally, I’ve enjoyed Lebanese-style garlic potatoes elsewhere — fluffy inside, lightly crisped outside, and tossed with garlic and herbs — and I think offering something closer to that would really elevate the side options here.
That said, East Side Shawarma is absolutely worth trying. The quality of the meat alone makes it a reliable go-to, and with just a small adjustment to the potatoes, it could easily become one of the top shawarma...
