The food serves decent authentic Korean dishes. Decided to stop by this restaurant because I wanted to eat some barbecued meat, but not everyone I was with was down for AYCE kbbq.
I ordered the Korean style pancake HaeMul PaJeon for starters. It was good and it was a fairly large portion for the small size, but the taste was nothing out of the ordinary. There wasn't much of a seafood flavor to it, mostly just the cooked pancake batter and green onions. Next, the HaeMul Cheese DdukBokYi came and that was a great dish! The sweet and spicy taste with the cheese was excellent. The sauce goes great with a bowl of rice.
I had the option to choose whether the meat were prepared in the kitchen or cooking it yourself on the portable gas stove. I chose for it to be prepared in the kitchen. The meat come out on a sizzling plate to keep the meat hot, which was nice. The taste of the pork belly wasn't as great as I expected it to be and the portion size was on the smaller side. It isn't really worth $18.95 for about 15 small/medium pieces of pork belly. Not sure if there would have been more pork belly if I chose to cook it myself.
The bulgogi was delicious though! Again, the portion is on the smaller size, but the marinated beef taste makes up for it. Lastly, I got the LA Kalbi. Keep in mind that the image shown may not reflect the actual dish. It's a small disclaimer on the bottom of the menu. So I expected the short ribs to have no bones. It came with bones, and it was difficult to eat. I'm not an expert at eating ribs clean, so that's an issue on my part, and I'm fine with it. However, the portion size was extremely tiny. No exaggeration, I literally got 7 slices of short ribs. For the price of $24.95 being the most expensive cut of meat on the menu, it was not worth it at all. The taste was simply average, nothing special like the bulgogi.
Overall, the pork belly and especially the LA Kalbi were underwhelming. I'm not sure if I'm trying to compare the meats with AYCE kbbq, but I find it not worth the price besides the bulgogi. The other dishes: korean pancake and tteokbokki were good. The banchan wasn't that appetizing either. There was no pickled radish, which is the banchan I look forward to the most. The service was nice and fast, and I find it convenient that there's a button to press if you need to get the...
Read moreHad a subpar experience at the restaurant. From our experience previously, the restaurant was better and so we were left rather disappointed.
Food was good, but what mattered most to us was the service. We constantly had to ask for things, and the attitude of the staff made it difficult for us to want to ask. The issue here is we were a larger group. The tip is already included, so we expect service to match it. As a bigger group, there is going to naturally have more questions and request stuff. I don’t think we were being unreasonable with our needs; some forks, more napkins, scissors to cut our shared group dishes (this was asked for 2 times and was not brought out). The fact that we were met with poor service makes it hard to justify the auto-tip.
To be fair, one of the servers was accommodating, but because we had 2 servers, the one ruined it for the other. A side note, the tip should be added pre-tax, rather than post to avoid inflation of the tip. It’s $7 extra on our $400+ bill, so not the end of the world. On a normal day I wouldn’t say much, but with the service today, it was a bit annoying.
Maybe it was a long day, or perhaps we came in at a busy time. Your experience may not be like ours, but felt...
Read moreTIP ENTITLEMENT!!!!!! Everything including the food was going well until it was time to pay. I decided to pay for the meal with my credit card and tip with cash but the waitress (a short lady) didn’t even give me time to tip. As soon as she saw that that I didn’t tip when I handed her the machine, she called me out on it. As I was looking into my wallet to get some cash out for the tip, she goes “was the service not good or did you not enjoy the food”. With a confused look, I responded that the service and food were good. She then proceeded to ask why there was no tip. I explained to her that I was just getting cash out of my wallet. She stood there until I got the cash out and handed it to her. That interaction ruined the entire experience for me. I’ve never had anyone boldly confront me for a tip before so this was unexpected. Also, this same lady ran after another customer as he was leaving the restaurant. I couldn’t hear their conversation but I saw the guy open his wallet and handed her some coins. I’m now convinced she ran after him for tips! The food was ok but terrible experience...
