My wife and I had a day away from the 4 kids so we wanted to go out for breakfast first. We wanted something other than the usual diner fare so I googled restaurants in the area and this one popped up. I had walked past it through the armoury wondering what it was but never remembered to look it up.
I found out it was a Portuguese/Canadian fusion restaurant and it served what sounded like some yummy breakfast items.
We arrived a little early but soon Steve (Owner/operator , who we met later asking about the place), took our order of Americano’s, a Pao Dourado (French Toast w/ lemon custard and fresh berries) and a breakfast plate with Alheira sausage.
The food was amazing! The Alheira sausage was like pulled pork, stuffed into a sausage casing, smoked and deep fried! The flavour was intense but balanced with everything. The onions and peppers with fresh cilantro lifted the home fries out of regular to the next level of delicious. The French toast was tasty and my wife ended up eating most of that as I hogged…the hog!
Steve told us about the concept of the place and where the food came from (some small island off the coast of Portugal).
The vibe of the place was really good with brightly coloured chairs/art work and a relaxed atmosphere.
Prices were very reasonable from about $12-18/breakfast+coffees. I hope that they stay affordable as the popularity rises so us yocal locals can come here all year round!
Definitely take a stop by this place for some delicious Portuguese food and a good start to your day!
(P.S. this review was made by the guy who endured the vacuuming lady and laughed about it! The deck is looking great! Will be a really cool space...
Read moreI had a truly bizarre and disappointing experience at this place. As someone with Portuguese roots, I make a point to visit Portuguese spots whenever I'm in a new town—it’s a way of staying connected and enjoying a familiar taste of home. I came across this location while searching for breakfast options and decided to make the trip, driving 20 minutes out of my way.
When I arrived, I found a line and was the last person in it. I wasn’t even able to place an order. The owner barked at me, quite aggressively: “We cannot take your order, you have to wait 25 minutes. That’s the nature of the business.” I was stunned—not just by the refusal, but by the rude tone. I was the only one left, and the situation could’ve been handled with far more kindness and respect.
It pains me to say this, but this was the worst Portuguese establishment I’ve ever visited. It felt entirely out of step with the warmth and generosity that define Portuguese bakeries and restaurants. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
This experience left me struggling and I haven't stopped thinking about it. At first, my gut was telling me the refusal was due to my skin colour. I didn't want to believe that. But now, based on the other people that left a 1 star review, I am 100% sure of this. It was an act of racism!!! And it...
Read moreThe place is an order at counter and seat youself type place. The staff are so friendly, helpful, and patient! It's really family friendly and has a kids option too. The food was delicious!!
(I'm sorry, I can remember the exact names of the food)
Apply rhubarb, ricotta french toast - it wasn't too sweet, which was great! It's creamy from the smooth ricotta and went perfectly with the french toast!
Surf and turf eggs benny - I believe it had charizo with a cod cake topped with the classic poached eggs and hollandaise sauce - the code cakes were really good!
Loaded breakfast with black pudding sausage as choice in protein - that black pudding sausage was amazing! I'm going to have to go get more of that!!
Pea and charizo stew - the tomato based stew has some amazing spices that give a really nice depth in flavours. It's really good and the brioche bread was perfect for dipping!
Kids grilled cheese was very well enjoyed by my kids! They absolutely loved the cheese pulls they got from it!!
Of course, you can't forget the custard tarts! The crust is flaky and buttery with the soft, gooey silky custard in the middle!
We have to go back again and try some...
