I went here last night with my wife and family for the first time and my entire experience was awful. We had made a reservation a week in advance for my wife's birthday but I will never return there again. When we got there, I had ordered a beer that came out warm, as well as we ordered our food. I ended up getting my appetizer fairly quickly and it was delicious. Unfortunately, it went downhill from here. It took an hour and a half for us to get our food, after asking multiple times when it would be ready. We were continuously told we were the next ones to get our food, except everyone that had been seated after us we're getting there meals long before we got ours. While waiting for our food, our waitress did not come over to offer more drinks or refill our water. I have never been to a restaurant where once you finish your alcoholic beverage, your not asked if you would like another. We asked for more bread while waiting and they only brought enough for half of the table. Finally, when the food came out, it was ice cold. At this point we had been there almost two hours and didn't have time to send the food back. The flavors were good, it was just cold and a big disappointment. A couple of us at the table had complained, but ended up paying full price for our meals with not even an apology for what had happened. Normally, with a group of 10 people, restaurants will try to take care of you but we were treated as if we were an inconvenience being there. The experience was terrible, the staff was rude and I don't recommend this...
Read moreNever judge a book by it's cover! My wife and I travelled to Kingston for her 50th. We just wanted a weekend away. So we google restaurants that had escargot and Ramekins popped up.
When we arrived, the building looked a little older and the interior was similar. There were no TV's, no cute hostess and the music wasn't pumping. It kind of reminded me of another amazing place we visited in Kitchener called Edelweiss Tavern. We were there for the food, not the over priced experience and this place did not disappoint.
Our server, Nick, was very pleasant and didn't try to over sell. He made some recommendations on the drink menu and they were spot on.
My wife had the garden salad to start and I had the escargot. She enjoyed hers and I loved my escargot. Not many places serve it anymore and I was very happy to find this one.
Our main course was the Prime Rib. She likes hers well done and I prefer medium rare. Oh My God! The size of meat was awesome! It was tender, juicy, thick and filled my plate. It was cooked perfectly, thanks to Chef Joe. The sides were nice too. The veggies were fresh and crisp and the potato just right.
The dessert finished us off. I had the lemon meringue pie and my wife had the sticky toffee pudding. Both were excellent and we were stuffed.
Like I mentioned, we were there for the food, not the ambience or fancy plating that is over priced and short on serving size. Ramekins will definitely be on our list of places to revisit the next time we return to Kingston.
Its family owned and highly...
Read moreRamekins has been a staple in Kingston since before I was a child but it is in serious need of some updates. We visited during the weekday.
The green carpeted dining area has a massive seam rip going down the middle of the restaurant. The window curtains are dollar store curtains we hang in our bathroom. You can see the loose threads dangling from the chairs. There were flies; fruit flies and regular flies constantly swarming our food that we unsuccessfully tried to bat away. We were near the kitchen so something in there needs to be cleaned.
The food was reasonably priced and the appetizers were good but the stir fry rice was undercooked and another person's noodles tasted like they came out of a package. The third person did not like their meal either.
Our waiter didn't offer to refill our glasses like the other waiters did for their tables. It was the first bad meal I've had at Ramekins and we were all disappointed in the food. Maybe we'll revisit when they finally tear up their carpet, clean their kitchen, use fresher, real ingredients instead of packaged stuff, and undergo new ownership.
I understand the pandemic has been rough on the supply chain and restaurants have to make compromises but we were all disappointed in the quality of the food, which could have been made...
