Shelby's Legendary Shawarma — Restaurant in Ontario

We are disappointed with the service we received this morning at this location. At 11 am, all the ingredients should be fresh and not left overs from the day before. The worker behind the counter was rude and threw the blame on the owner for not having fresh ingredients? You can visibly see the vegetables and hummus are dried out from yesterday and did not look fresh what so ever. When the staff was asked if the ingredients were from yesterday, she proceeded rudely to say, "Why do you ask? What shall I do? That's what's available, its the owners fault". I'm sure if the owner knows he won't let his standards stoop that low in terms of serving fresh ingredients or bad customer service. Then the worker was asked if there was hot sauce for the wrap, and she replied by saying there is no hot sauce without checking. It baffled us that a good restaurant like Shelby's lacks simple ingredients that should be the basics but we understood that some things are not available at certain times and its OK. Then another staff member surprisingly brought bottle of hot sauce that the worker said wasn't available without asking her colleague. So we basically had an empty wrap with just the protein and sauce. We are not trying to slate the business, we have supported Shelby's for years since it was a food truck stationed in Lambeth, but the rude service was beyond bearable. I'm a massive fan of Shelby's. I can't get enough of the chicken shawarma bowl. However, recently I have felt the need to make this 3-star review because I feel there is a developing inconsistency between staff serving the food. Some staff serve balanced portions and are receptive to requests to add a little bit more vegetables or sauces overtop. On the other hand, one staff member in particular (from my experience) seems to be different. On requests for a little bit more for a legendary/large bowl, he takes a handful and drops a merely one piece of pickled turnip or just tosses a couple pieces of onions. This poor attempt of sleight of hand doesn't go unnoticed. Surely, I'm not just asking for one more piece. Given the toppings and the sauce go a long way for something like a shawarma bowl, this inconsistency creates an inconsistent taste.

Shelby's, consistency is absolutely key when it comes to restaurants. As customers, we take comfort knowing that our food and experience will be the same each time we go, and the same between people if we recommend the restaurant. Please try to...

I had the absolute pleasure of being introduced to this restaurant before they had a north London location and had no issues driving to the other side of town to get their food. This restaurant has amazing quality food and I have never had a disappointing visit. The masonville location has done an amazing job of living up to my high expectations of this restaurant and they are my go to for any time I choose to eat out. The staff always make me feel welcome and do a great job answering questions about the food since I'm not familiar with middle Eastern cuisine and their recommendations always end up with me trying something amazing. There are even fusion foods so if you're not super sure about trying something they have really cool combinations of middle Eastern and American fusion to just dip your toe in and try something new. I can't recommend Shelby's enough, even in the pandemic they manage to maintain amazing quality food and customer service and you are doing yourself a disservice if you haven't tried their food.
